Runny nose

When I'm getting close to the "one bite too many." Threshold, I get a runny nose. If I even get to where I feel a slight nose tickle, I stop eating now, even if I've eaten less than my measured portion. DH told me that when he's getting to that point, the tops of his ears get hot and turn red.

Just made me curious what other odd "tells" people might have?

I get the runny nose thing sometimes either that or I start to cough both defintely signs to stop eating now. The next stage is nausea definitely to be avoided. It also doesn't seem to matter sometimes how much I've eaten, I measure, but sometimes what I think I should be able to eat is too much.

I'm starting to learn that different types of protein/meat can mean different amounts, and even then, sometimes I can eat 2 oz of chicken, and the next I can eat less or a little more...I feel like there are probably a dozen factors. What else did I eat earlier today? How was the meat prepared? What cut was the meat?

I feel like I am one giant experiment right now lol

I have always gotten the runny nose. I am much further out than you and unfortunately it has stopped being a really accurate tool for me because I can literally get it after 2 small bites. Not sure what that's about. I also can get it if I am eating too fast. If I stop wait a minute or two then I can go back and refocus on eating slower.

The vagus nerve gets stimulated when the stomach stretches, and that's what causes the runny nose, most likely.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

Yes it is .... we were always taught that was a sign of being full. I know if I only ate 2 small bites I'm not full . :/

Fullness is...weird. I am not sure it's well understood how it interconnects by science yet. It's partially psychological, partially chemical, and partially physical. So, the physical is obvious, but the chemical and psychological fullness are far more complex and intertwined. It sucks.

I'm actually not sure of how WLS actually affects the vagus nerve as a whole except in vague ideas. I will add it to the list of things I am researching which cause me not to have a social life, heh. Kidding aside though, might be overcorrection of receptors mucking it up. Many of the gut receptors WLS affects are also in nerves and the brain...and the cranial nerves, vagus included, are actually a part of the brain step. That's just me theorizing though, as I am unsure.

More annoying then runny nose is the occasional uncontrollable sneezing like 10 in a row!
