Think Twice Get the Sleeve

Your post makes no sense to me. I am a Canadian from Ontario. ALL surgeries here are FREE (OHIP). All post op care appts are free. All lab testing is free. Any complicaitons that come up (my gallbladder needed to come out) that surgery was free. I have needed Iron infusions, in the last four years I think I have had 6-7 of them, all free. Why would you go to the US and pay out of pocket? How nice your hospital was like a 5 star hotel, how long did you stay in? How much did that cost you? Guess what my 3 day stay at my hospital cost me ZERO. And I had my own room with a washroom.

If you want to gush over how great this Dr. Pleatman is go for it. But to tell people here on OH that one surgery is better over the other especially when you are all but two weeks out is just looking for a fight.

In fact I would say that your interpretation of having had the band and then going with a sleeve is grossly misinformed. I will make not of your post and your name and will be looking for you in a year or two coming back here telling us all how bad your GERD is. Best of luck with that,

No surgery is better than the other, get over yourself.

I thought the original post was odd placement here in the RNY board...where a majority of us have already had or are in process for RNY...

There's also not necessarily fewer complications after ten years. I never regretted my sleeve. I did regret the horrifying GERD it gave me. And, I had a top-notch surgeon who did it.

Many people develop GERD post-op and must stay on PPIs or revise, so it's not as easy a decision. Many factors are involved.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

Why exactly is he so gung-ho on the sleeve? There are lots of surgs who have been doing bari-surg and so 2-3 a day, and have a long term committment to bariatric patients.

I will say I think your post is a bit odd and definitely sounds like an ad, but to each his own and I would hope that people can see the true meaning of your post.

What I really wanted to comment on was the bit of sleeve "bashing" that is happening in the responses. I had VSG, and was one of the unlucky ones to develop GERD post surgery after never having an issue with heartburn/reflux. I miss my sleeve every.single.day. I got to goal, had no food issues, and was living an active healthy life, except for the acid. I honestly think it's a great surgery as long as you go into it with eyes wide open. If you have an contraindications, it's best to stay away and go with RNY. Yes, there are people on OH who have had issues and have had to revise, but there are also a bunch of people who had VSG, have had amazing success and live an issue free life. I think the best surgery is the one that is best for you in YOUR particular situation.
