Can I ask if you had your acid level checked before surgery. If so what was it? It has been 2 years, 1 month and 6 days I have been dealing with this :(

I did not have it checked. I had any upper GI done that showed moderate reflux a year ago and then a second one back in January that showed severe reflux extending into the esophagus. Between that, the numerous PPI's I was on and a GI consult, it wasn't needed.

Hi and No I didnt.

I took 2x pantoprazole 40 per day and ranitidine as a supplement. It got much better after RNY. I was told that 90% plus are mostly cured of acid reflux with RNY . I figured those odds were good enough for me.:)

I could totally live with 90'% relief. The problem is I am seriously a medical oddity so I'm convinced I'll be in the 10"% it doesn't cure. Glad you are better. I know it's miserable

Hello,

What symptoms did you have to know it was Reflyx? Did you get ulcers from it?

I did not have ulcers, but I had a constant heartburn feeling in my chest along with a swollen esophagus. As it got worse it became harder to swallow. I constantly had a sore throat and would wake up coughing on the reflux. My surgeon ordered an Upper GI and they could see the reflux extending into my esophagus on the test.

I had severe and intractable GERD. Thing with PPIs is they don't get rid of reflux, they just neutralize it.

I was in pain and could not swallow sometimes. I was miserable the day before surgery. The day of surgery was a miracle on Feb 19th. I haven't had to take P******ce, and haven't looked back since either. I am still bummed I couldn't revise to the DS, but I am not in pain and I am so happy as a result.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

What problems did you result with from the reflux, did you have ulcers?

How did you know it was reflux, what were your symptoms?

I knew it was reflux because I had reflux before Vsg. I had bravo testing which measures your acid through what is called a DeeMester score. A score above 14.72 indicates reflux. My score was 85.5. It's reflux. I've also had 4 endoscopies since surgery that confirm the reflux.

Hello. On November 20, 2017, I had my sleeve converted to a RNY gastric bypass. I had a different surgeon perform my bypass, as my sleeve surgeon and I did not see eye to eye. My bypass doctor had me do a barium swallow, when I first me with her (June 2017) and told me my reflux was quite bad. I had been taking 20mg of Omeprazole, twice a day. I would wake up every night choking and gasping for air. Prior to my sleeve, I never had any acid reflux issues. I saw my bypass surgeon for a follow up on Friday and I no longer have to take medication for acid reflux. I'm losing weight and am much happier. My insurance required me to meet with a registered dietitian for six months prior to approving surgery. My doctor wanted me to lose 12 pounds before surgery and I was able to lose 29. I'm not familiar with the various tests you have had, but I hope you get the surgery. It was the best decision I've ever made. I have not had one night since my revision where I've woken up, gasping for air and choking on fluid. It's such a relief being able to breathe! If I can be of any help, don't hesitate to ask.
