I have always thought my tailbone pain waa due to weight loss. I complained about it to my rheumy and he ordered MRI. Im so glad he took me seriously becausr other docs have blew me off saying because im skinny. Anyway i have ankyllsing spondylitis since dx in 2006. The MRI found active imflammation of joints and possible enthesitis. Will be folloowing up with him soon for discussion and treatment. So if you have rheumatoid arthritis and have pain around tailbone. Get it checked out and dont chalk it up to weight loss. My rheumy knows i have had rny in 2011.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

Very timely and interesting post. I've had tailbone pain off and on for awhile. Then last month I thought I was having a hemorrhoid episode due to a large, painful lump in my gluteal cleft (aka a$$ crack) and went to see a colorectal MD and she said I have ****ydynia (tailbone pain).

For months it's been painful to sit and to lay on my back in bed. Yesterday I had an epidural steroid injection to help with the pain and it feels better today. I wonder how long this will help or if something else will need to be done. I also use a ****yx pillow when I'm sitting for a long period of time, which offers some relief.

what is the root cause of this issue? TBD. I've fallen on my backside a few times in my life, am below goal weight so am skinny right now, and in the past some docs have said I have RA. I will definitely ask about Ankylosing Spondylitis.

The other day I searched on OH about tailbone pain and many people have experienced it and said it eventually resolved on its own. I hope that's my experience. But no one ever mentioned it appearing like mine, I.e. a big bony protrusion in the butt cleft.

I have the same issue - it feels like a large protrusion. It's driving me nuts!
