There are meds that should NOT BE CRUSHED. Call your surgeon for proper instruction.
I was swallowing whole pills in the hospital right after surgery. I was instructed not to take a whole handful and try to swallow them down. My surgeon told me to take them one at a time with a little time in between pills. I never had any problems taking pills.
I was taking pills right away as well. The only ones I had to wait on (because they were too big) were ursodiol (but the surgeon's PA said it was fine to wait a couple weeks on those) and those giant calcium horse pills. I could have just crushed the calcium tablets and put them in something (they don't have much taste) - or cut them into quarters - but I think I just started doing the chews instead.
So good to know. Was going to ask my doctors about liquids or substitutes. I have two small capsules I must take.
