The final step before preop is done, tomorrow morning I have my blood work and EKG done and then in the afternoon I am going to call to make my surgery date. It seems surreal that this is all happening. It is crazy too, to think how quickly this went from a casual conversation at the gym to a reality.

This is my first post here, but this forum has been awesome in getting me through the last few days of this push. Both the positives and negatives are good to read and be aware of. So, wanting to say hello and thank you! RNY here I come.

Welcome to the forum. Reading through past posts can be really helpful and informative.

Now is the time to get serious about your surgery. If you aren't currently exercising, start walking as much as you can. It may or may not start weight loss but it will improve your heart health and give your body a healthy start. Also start drinking as many fluids as you can. Practice your new habit of not drinking 30 minutes before and after you eat and never with meals. Both of these things will improve your recovery and should be part of your post-op life.

Also if you read this forum, you will see that many successful veterans have found that a high protein, low carb diet helps with loss and maintenance. Work to eat dense protein first and to remove as many carbs as possible from your diet. Protein shakes and bars can help to keep your protein up but dense protein will keep you full.

Wishing you all the best on your journey!
