Off the diabetes meds!

I was really sad when I had to leave the hospital still taking the diabetes meds; I know they said that it takes time but I read that "some" people do get to get off right away. The poor resident, I cried when he told me. The good news is as of yesterday, I am off!! I'm very excited about that..now just looking forward to getting off the gatorade only portion of recovery.
It's fascinating to me how different all the pre-op/post-op instructions are!

It hasn't been the worst thing ever -- I haven't had sweetened beverages in years before this week and I find I need to brush my teeth 4-5 times a day because they feel sugar-coated. I look back to when i was a soda drinker and wonder how i managed all those dr peppers every day!

Congrats! It's wonderful how effective WLS is at reducing these weigh related medical issues. Great step forward with more to come!

That's GREAT NEWS! and a big YES to the wide variation in instructions from various clinics and surgeons! My clinic has patients eating (soft) meat only five days out! Like canned meats and eggs.
I was sad that my blood pressure remained high for a few weeks. I was pretty convinced I'd come off the table with normal blood pressure. But it's in the low normal range now and has been since about 8 weeks out.

Hi! I am also working on getting off of my diabetes meds. Prior to surgery, I was taking 2000mg of Metformin, 80 units of extended release insulin, and 1.8 units of Victoza. At this point, I am off of the Victoza and am on reduced amounts of Metformin (500mg) and down to 20 units of insulin. My blood sugar readings are now consistently in the normal range w/ the occasional low. I go back to my PCP next week, and we will be talking about my meds. So...I am super excited and I feel great!
