Things are moving along
I just wanted to share my excitement and worries in my RNY journey.
I have finally been approved for surgery and am booked for April 10th!
I will get to eat 900 cals/day for 2 weeks pre-op - instead of Opti Fast.
I have my friends and family in-line to support me post-op.
I have adopted a good eating habit and am wondering if surgery is the right thing. I'm nervous, excited and scared at the same time.
Thanks for reading my pre-surgery jitters and excitement. I hope I'm making the right decision.

I'm only 11 months out but I can tell you that it has been the best decision I've made. I wish I'd done this years ago.
I was MO, with a BMI of 35 and a high (pre-surgical) weight of 212. I was so close to being "just" Obese that I was second guessing myself the whole time. This weight loss experience is unlike anything I'd imagined. Of course it's not easy and you still have your trickster mind to deal with but it's so much better than by diet alone.
The RNY gave me to ability to overcome my body's all determination to keep my weight on. It basically cleared the deck of all the physical symptoms of hunger and even reduced my desire for foods. At this point I do get hungry (and hangery) but nothing like before. The restriction provides a great "early alert" to mindless or habit based eating where I either start with too large of a portion or I add seconds without really THINKING. While I'm going through this process, my tool is providing the space from hunger and feedback on portion size to actively address these old, self destructive behaviors and hopefully learn new healthy behaviors while the tool is still functioning.
Good luck!!!

OP (and others), please note that this is most likely NOT permanent. Most people on the boards seem to experience a return of hunger after the first year is out.

Yep that's why I ended the paragraph with this "address these old, self destructive behaviors and hopefully learn new healthy behaviors while the tool is still functioning."
I'm already experiencing hunger, that started a few months after surgery, although it's still much better than pre-surgery. I assume that the hunger will roar back eventually. The goal is to learn the new healthy habits now so that they are doable then.

I just had my bypass 4 wks ago. I was terrified beyond belief because I not only had never had surgery before, but I was having 2 surgeries at one time (gallbladder). I just wanted to tell you, I set my mind up for going thru hell. It was the easiest recovery for me. I was ready to go back to work 3 days later, although they wouldn't let me. Just baby yourself at home. Sip slowly, allow your mind time to feel your body and what it is telling you. I am so happy to finally have that ravenous hunger gone, but certainly it is a very big decision and lots of change. My parting advice, if you have it, sip water ALL DAY LONG when recovering. Dehydration is the #1 rehospitalization post op....ehhhhemmm....clearing my throat from experience...lol. Good luck!
