Hello Gastric Bypass
Hi Everyone,
I had Lapband surgery back in 2010. I lost 52 lbs. Then I got engaged, gained some happy fat, and never stopped. It is now 2018, I have a hiatal hernia, and my Dr has told me we will need surgery for the hernia AND due to my lapband slipping, remove the lapband as well. He also informed me that I will need Gastric Bypass due to the band scarring my stomach, and if they just removed the band, I would then have terrible heartburn and reflux always. :(
So..I'm headed for bypass surgery in March. I need some refreshers - what should I be aware of... My husband will soon follow behind me with his surgery. We are both excited about this wonderful change to our lives.

Welcome. You are in good company, as we have seen your exact same story a thousand times here. You will be so, so happy to be rid of that awful band. It's injured a lot of people.
RNY was the best choice I ever made. Stick around, do some reading, and ask some questions. You're going to be really glad you did this.

Hi there!
I had my band removed in August 2017 and had rny in December 2017. I am down 30 pounds so far. My lapband didn't slip. I developed severe acid reflux and it had to come out. I don't regret it for a minute. I have no more acid reflux and I am off all of my medications. No issues really - just learning how to eat again, drinking 64 ounces a day and getting in 80 protein has been time-consuming, in fact, I felt like the surgery for the rny was a lot easier than with the band. I try to walk my dog just about every day. My husband and I had surgery on the same day. He is down 60 pounds. Good luck on your journey!
You can't measure your achievements with someone else's yardstick!

Hi and Welcome!
I am a band 2003 to sleeve 2008 to RNY 2017 revision. Slipped band and converted to sleeve which caused tons of research. No regrets. The key to all of these surgeries is long time compliance. Eating small portions, good healthy protein first , then veggies if room and little carbs. Don't drink when you eat.
Thats my 15 second elevator speech!! LOL
