What's on your menu today (Tuesday) RNYers?
Thanks so much for the information. I'm out of Ottawa. And you said it. I feel like death. It is the best way to describe it. So hard to do anything. I questioned the nurse to the point she got frustrated with me. On my because I am feeling so crappy and I'm not that far from 0. So do we wait till then?
I've got an appointment with my family de next week. Crossing fingers she will refer me. I'm not all that confident as she wasn't a fan of me having this surgery to begin with. But I'll have to fight for myself. I can't keep going like this. It's impacting my whole life. It's nuts and so hard to explain to anyone.
Ill order those iron pills. Plus I cross the border for shopping on a regular basis. Love Target and well, Target! Lol. Plus some of the groceries you can't get here. ?
Did you have stomach/bathroom issues with the patch?
I cant complain about the care I've received at Ottawa-but then saying that. This is a concern and who knows what essential I've missed? Crazy!
Thanks again for for your help!
I feel like I've taken over this thread today! Sorry about that! Everyone is so amazingly helpful!

It truly upsets me to no end to have the very people we put our trust and health in their hands and for them to give us wrong or incorrect info. I only know a small handful of people here on OH that love their Centres and have received excellent post op care, most people I interact with are dealing with people who are very nice but totally clueless about post op Bariatric care, its sad actually.
Some key things to say to your family doc 1. This is affecting my quality of life. 2. I am unable to function at a normal level in my work and personal life and need help and the only way I can raise my Ferritin to an acceptable level is to start with an iron infusion and then I will switch my brand of oral iron pills once I am at an acceptable level. Print off research from the net if you have to and take it to her. If she flat out refuses to give you a referral then I would go to a walk in clinic and get them to refer you, you just need a referral from a doctor.
Yes I love going cross border shopping in the US as well. Target and Trader Joes are my two fav places!
So to take oral iron pills and not suffer from constipation make sure you get either Carbonyl Iron or Heme Iron. Stay far away from anything "Ferrous Sulfate." Its very constipating!!
Do NOT let your family doc tell you that a Ferritin of 60 or 80 is "too high." Nope maybe for a non WLS patient but for those of us that malabsorb that is a good number, ever better to be at 100. I have learned so much from the Vets and I just nod and smile when I get told that my Ferritin, or B12 or Vit D is too high. If you talk to the Vets on here the numbers we need are way higher than the "average" Joe as we have had WLS. All labs have ranges that are for the general population, not bariatric specific.
The Iron Patch has ZERO side effects for constipation. If you want to use the patch make sure you rotate the spot you put the patch on so that it has maximum absorption. I do lower belly, R hip, L hip, R shoulder, L shoulder, R chest, L chest and then back to belly.
I also take a capful of Restoralax daily. I have been for over a year now. My family doctor and my Bariatric surgeon who took out my gallbladder two months ago approved daily use of Restoralax. It works amazing for keeping me regular. I also use a lot of butter and olive oil when cooking and that is "good fat" and also keeps things moving. Good luck and keep us posted and you did not take over the thread, I am so glad you asked, never be afraid to ask questions or ask for help!

Wow what a great question! So for Valentine's Day my husband and I are usually low key. I don't like going out to dinner because I find everywhere is SO busy and crowded. I feel rushed. I prefer to be at home and cook something special. But i'm working evenings this week so I'll have to get creative lol.
Probsnly when I was younger I would help someone but same thing, as I got older I expected people to put in the work and study.
Have a great day everyone.
Good Morning.
If my grandkids lived closer I am sure I would do something Valentines related with them. But no, no celebrating here.
QOTD: That was honestly too long ago to remember. Remember I am old. Hahahaha I think in grade school I probably shared. Or st least didn't hide my paper. College no.

Good morning! I was slip-slidin' my way to work this morning! Apparently it WILL kill someone to put salt down, just as much as it can kill someone NOT to I guess. Man that was crazy. My ice cleats were at work for some reason (that's a great place for them) but I'll be using them this afternoon that's for sure.
Menu: Shakes and bars day I'm afraid. I forgot to pack stuff last night as I fell asleep early on. Every so often my body just needs that extra bit of rest to catch up. I get a solid 5 to 6 hours a night (which isn't enough, I know) which is OK for getting me through the day, but I tend to nap at night if I sit down on our very comfortable sectional couch. I should go to bed for 10pm or so, but I already hardly see my wife it seems. After the kids are in bed is really the first time we get to chat all day.
Valentine's is pretty low-key. A card, maybe a chocolate treat and/or dinner with my wife. I do go a little further to make my daughters my valentines, with cards, a little box of chocolate valentines and Daddy/Daughters dates. We will go on a walk around our neighbourhood with a stop halfway at Tim Horton's, where over a coffee (tea or hot chocolate for them) I will hear all about their day.
QOTD: I was one of those guys that didn't like someone copying my work. I put in the time and effort to learn, and didn't want to feed someone else's laziness. I went so far one time with a multiple choice test as to purposely and faintly mark the wrong answer, 1 letter to the right (so I left myself a little road-map). I finished the test, packed everything up at the same time as this guy that was copying me, and slowly stood up. He stood up, handed in his stuff and left. I had 5 minutes to change all of my 200 answers to the correct ones immediately to the left and erase my faint wrong answers. When I aced it and he got 0, he was sure pissed off. I left it on the corner of my desk in sight on purpose. I'm pretty sure he never copied me again. The prof noticed his 0 and my 100 and we had a chat about it after class. He knew all along and admitted that I had only scored 98 but bumped it up to "make a point". He LOVED what I did to this goof.
Remember, no matter where you go.......there you are.
Sounds like you pamper all of your ladies! Good for you!

Good Morning! I hope Amy feels better soon. Yum....dark chocolate strawberries sound amazing. We don't have much planned for Valentine's day this year. We have a few things for Em to put in a little bag and I have a fun game I picked up for John and some white chocolate truffles but nothing too exciting this year.
Accountability: Somersaults are the devil.
QOTD: I remember getting caught giving a friend answers in 5th grade and we both got in so much trouble! In high school I know I would let a friend take a peek at an answer but nothing major.
