What's on your menu today (Tuesday) RNYers?
on 2/6/18 2:43 am - GTA, Ontario, Canada
Hey Marvelous Menu Minions! How are you all? All is good here in the Great White North.
Accountability: Well I just want to share with you all that I am 4 yrs post op and I am pretty "anti carb/sugar" and eat high protein, low carb and follow the "rules" pretty strict. Well as I said yesterday I had a bunch of carbs on the weekend (lasagna, bread, apple pie) and now I feel like all I want to eat is CARBS FOR DAYS. I am pretty pissed at myself that I did that and now I feel like I got the carb Monster on my back. I am literally craving all the carbs that I work so hard to avoid and its hell to get it out of my system. Just sharing this for the newbies that maintenance is HARD and the longer you can avoid carbs & sugar in the form of things like bread, pasta, pie, cake, cookies etc. Now I am on plan "detox." UGH
QOTD: How long do you sleep each night? What is your preferred number of hours of sleep versus what you actually get. Are you a night person or morning person? I generally get 4-5 hours of sleep. I want 7 hours but during the work week I don't. I tend to go to bed at around 11pm or midnight and my alarm goes off at 4:45am. On the weekends I get 7-8 hours of sleep and its glorious. I am a night person, I am more productive at night and feel more awake. I am a day person only because I have to be for work but much prefer the evenings/nights. I am also way more hungry from 3pm onward and not hungry at all in the morning.
Time since surgery: 4 yrs + 2 months

Good morning everyone. I woke up feeling stuffy and ear-achy again. Seriously? I need spring. Stat.
Can't agree more with what you said about the carb monster, Daisy. I guess there are some people who can have carbs in moderation, but I am not one of them. When I eat foods with flour and sugar it's like there is an invisible force screaming at me to have more. Detoxing is the only way to make those cravings subside. It sucks to start all over again.
Accountability: Good. I had one of those "starving before noon" days. I ate everything I brought with me before 11:30am, so I was pretty hungry when I came home from the gym. But I managed to stick to it, and ate exactly to my planned menu.
QOTD: I sleep from about 9/9:30pm - 4am-ish every day. So, 6.5 - 7 hours, but I wake up a lot through the night. I have one cat who likes to hunt my toes (not Grim's, btw!) at 3am on the dot. Plus sometimes I get weird work anxieties and my mind starts racing. So even though I am in bed for those hours, sometimes I lose an hour or so in there.
I'm actually experiencing a general apathy about food right now. Maybe it's because my choices are all "meh." But I thought I'd be going crazy with cravings. Those stopped about day 3 though. Yesterday I didn't even finish my morning yogurt. I just didn't want it.
Qqotd: I prefer to be in bed by 9:30, and I get up at 5:15. I usually don't actually get to bed til closer to 11 though.

I'm glad that you aren't struggling with food right now. Keep it up!

It sure makes it easier when you don't even want to eat...I thought I'd be white-knuckling through his first part and maybe I will have to as I get closer to surgery day, but for now I'm glad my stomach and head are cooperating!

I've been meaning to tell you this, I've seen your posts even before I joined the menu group. I do admire your commitment to the process. I gotta admit before surgery I sorta went crazy and treated every meal like my last supper. But I see you steadfast and on the course and wanted to tell you BRAVA!!!

Thank you so much! I have to admit the night before I started liquids, I did eat a plate of nachos the size of my face. But as for going crazier than that--my husband is 9 months out from RNY so I don't have the eating buddy I once did. So going all out with last meals isn't quite the same, and now I look at it like...why gain the weight only to have more to lose?

Good morning menu folks! The thermometer wasn't so bad today and there really wasn't much wind (unlike yesterday) but I was just chilled to the bone. Now I am sitting at my desk and snuggling with my hot coffee and starting to feel my fingers again.
Daisy, I know what you mean with the carbs. Since I have been in maintenance, I have experimented with some carbs. I have found that yeast breads make me violently sick and rice makes me feel like I want to explode, but sugar...yum! I have done pretty well with moderation, but sometimes the cravings for doughnuts and muffins and cake is almost overwhelming. I want to take my post surgery time to detox from carbs again. I need more protein anyway so I will focus on dense protein and non-starchy veggies again.
QOTD: I really need my 8 hours of sleep most nights or I am a mess. I wind down about 7:30 or 8:00 and try to have the lights out by 8:30. Sometimes I wake up in the night when the cats are restless but I usually go back to sleep pretty well. The alarm goes off at 4:30 and I am up and going soon afterward. On the weekend sometimes I stay up a little later and stay in bed until 6:30 or 7:00 but the cats don't let me sleep very late. I am definitely a morning person. I don't have much energy and focus later in the evening, but I feel pretty good when I wake up.
Menu:
Breakfast: 1/2 cup plain oatmeal, scrambled eggs, ham
Snack: Ice tea protein shake
Lunch: fish, salad
Snack: cheese, apple, almonds
Dinner: shrimp, baby carrots
Exercise: hour of swimming and several short walks

Good morning everyone!
I have been MIA for 3 days now....just no time to get on. For being retired, I always seem to have enough to keep me busy, lol.
Carbs have always been my enemy....before and after surgery. The difference now after surgery is bad carbs I can eat and have issues with are bagels and bread. Every other bad carb my body won't tolerate and it won't tolerate much suagar either. I dump on sugar, sugar alcohols, pasta, potatoes, and even rice. I think it is the starch that makes me dump on the three latter. Even with all that I still struggle to keep my carbs to between 20 and 30 grams a day. I feel like there are hidden carbs in everything. I would be lost without mfp and OH to help me keep track. I don't have a craving for carbs though. I just bought several things of Oikos Triple Zero yogurt yesterday but even they have quite a few carbs in them. I get soooo confused some times.>>>>>whining ensues.
Accountability: the last 3 days have been pretty good but I had a cup of hot cocoa Sunday. I still was struggling to keep my carb grams down though. A constant battle.
Menu:
B: egg white, pepper, onion and ham scramble with 2 Tablespoons taco sauce.
L: fajita chicken lettuce, and cheese salad with FF dressing.
D: probably fajita beef with melted 2% cheese.
qotd: I go to bed every night at 9 pm and get up anywhere between 4 and 6. So generally get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. My fur babies all sleep with us and are so spoiled they expect to go to bed at 9 and start the stare down around 8:45, lol. They love bedtime, lol.

Nothing Tastes as Good as Healthy Feels!
Good morning! It is supposed to be very sunny and warm today so I think we are going to the beach this afternoon. Today is the one year anniversary of our purchase of the villa here.
Accountability: My weight is above my preferred range today (and has been hovering near the top of the range a lot lately where previously it would bounce around in the middle/low side). It is definitely from eating more carbs and from having wine more often. Time to de-carb and eliminate the wine!
QOTD: When I worked, I got up at 4:30 am so I would be in bed at 8:30 pm and tried to get 7.5-8 hours of sleep. That was not always the case over the years but as I got older I found that I did better at work and felt better with that much sleep. Now my window is more like 10 pm-6:30 am, but I wake up a lot due to DH being restless or getting up. So I hope for 7-8 in total.
1 year, 10 months post-op
B: eggs, cottage cheese and Canadian bacon
L: Tuna salad, pickles and cottage cheese
D: Fish and veggies
S: Cottage cheese or yogurt
