Hi everyone,

I have had mini gastric bypass surgery in October 2016. After a year and four months I still can't tolerate certain types of food such as greens, cereals, pork (I only tolerate ham), some fruits, especially oranges. I don't have any problems with fried food or soda (even though I hardly consume them) that usually cause some issues.

Did something like this happen to somebody else?

Yes. I also can't eat certain things. Cereal is one of them. The way I see it... it goes with the territory.

The first few years your new stomach is sensitive in time you will tolerate almost all... except of course high sugars and high carbs if you get dumping or late dumping also known as Reactive Hypoglycemia... that will always bite your but which is a good thing as far as I am concerned.

Problem is I dump on greens, cereals and pork. I almost never dump on carbs and sugar

When I was about 2 -3 years out I started having a cup of plain cornflakes for breakfast I would get terrifible episodes of reactive hypoglycemia. 45 min to 2 hours later usually. Sweating, heart beating fast, can't think or talk straight , almost as if drunk... had to take something quick like orange juice to bring me back to normal. Cereals usually have a lot of carbs. I no longer eat cereal. Also greens in the beginning gave me diaherea.. eventually that went away. In the beginning many things I could not eat.... spighetti would make me sick immediately even a tiny bit. Now 10 years this May I can eat anything but.feel my best with Protein (meets like beef and chicken but beef was easier initially). I ate a lot of home made chili. To this day I don't love ham since WLS. Love bacon though!

in time you will tolerate more and more. That is when it is harder.

Thanks, knowing that in a few years I might get back to eat everything it's comforting. This started after months from surgery. At the beginning only sweet stuff bothered me, now that's OK, instead I started feeling sick with other things. Just few weeks ago I ate just a slice of orange and I immidiately threw up and felt sick for most part of the day, last winter I used to atw oranges all the time. I was also told not to eat spaghetti but I complitely forgot and ate them, but they didn't bothered me at all. I hope I'm gonna be able to eat everything at some point

I still can't eat anything with high sugar over say 10- 15 grams or I will not feel well... I will not throw up this far out but still will get light headed ... dumb in the head , or worse Rh symptoms depending on how bad the thing I ate was. For instance probably once a year I am out with my kids and husband and I throw caution to wind and have scoop of ice cream ( I eat about half give hubby other half) like Ben and jerrys on vacation.... almost immediately start to feel the sugar and not well.. thinking gets skewed! Etc. so much better abstaining but I have slipped from about 7 years out. I was pretty much to the T my first 7 years. Protein first, Low sugar and lower or no Carb things work best.... it is definite lifestyle change if the long hard work is to last. I am 15 up from my goal ... was 40 and since Spring working. Not easy maintaining but it can be done!
