Starting optifast

Congratulations; I'm so excited for you.

I was on Optifast for 3 weeks topo.

I learned that I liked Opti best when mixed with almost an entire 500 ml bottle of water, 4-6 ice cubes, mixed together in a big shaker cup with a lid. I didn't like it without ice with less or more water, or with any flavorings or coffee added, but that's just me. You may need to experiment to find what you like.

I grew to love the taste and looked forward to my Opti. I was almost sad to finish and wondered if I should just stay on Opti and not have surgery at one point, but I'm so glad I did have my RNY.

I found if I spaced the Opti out and had one every 3-4 hours I did not get physically hungry. I was allowed soup broth and 1 cup of green veggies per day. I lived for that broth, lol, as I was on Opti in winter and felt cold all the time. I was allowed herbal tea for the first week, but for weeks 2-3 was not allowed herbal tea or vitamins or supplements of any kinds, so I had hot lemon water for warmth.

I found it easiest to avoid the family when they were eating. I asked everyone to hide their treats, and put the bread away. I even resorted to putting vics in my nose so I couldn't smell their pizza one day, lol. I learned the meaning of hangry while on optifast, lol.

You can do this. Just find what works best for you. You've got this!

Thank you!! I'm excited as well...and nervous lol. It's funny how we will all like the optifast made a certain way. You're right I figure it'll be a few days of figuring out how much water/ice/no ice etc. hopefully I find the right trick soon! Im also hopeful that the broth fills my belly some on those times I do end up a little hungry. The sugar free Popsicles are going to be my trick when I feel the need for a "sweet"

It's always helpful to see everyone's thankfulness that they went through with surgery, it really reinforces that it IS the right decision.

I am thinking about the others and meals thing, thinking I'll try to be out at noon at least. Will be particularly painful at work as I sit on the same level and across the hall from our caf. and I'm sure the smells will get to me sometimes. Would like to avoid that but can't avoid my desk every day from 10-2 haha. I will power through.
