Hey everyone, I'm obviously new here. Excited to start this journey (ok, also freaking out on the inside)! If any of you have similar body measurements, how long did it take you to reach your goal weight? I know it varies from person to person and depends on how much effort you put into it, but I was kind of hoping to have some realistic ball-park range to wrap my head around. Thanks :)

Though I am taller and was a lot heavier, so can't offer you a specific timeline, I want to welcome you to OH! This is a very helpful site, with lots of knowledgeable support from people who truly understand the struggle. Have you met with your surgeon or started fulfilling insurance requirements yet? Wishing you the very best of luck!

Yes, I have insurance approval and completed all of my pre-op program requirements. I started the process 11 months ago, and finally got a surgery date last week. I have 1 more appointment for final pre-op testing and 1 more mandatory pre-op class scheduled this Wednesday. :) Thanks for the welcome. I've been peaking around the site and finally made a profile of my own. Glad to see there's such a big community.

Generally people who start at at a lower weight/BMI ( and therefore less to lose to a normal BMI ) tend to lose a little more slowly than those with a higher surgery weight and BMI.

I'm an inch shorter than you, but was 60 lbs heavier on surgery day. Being compliant 95% of the time in my losing phase, it took me 19 months to reach my goal weight. If I'd buckled down and was at 100% compliance, I may have reached it earlier.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

19 months seems pretty spot on from what I've been seeing around, so you obviously knew what you had to do and stuck to it pretty well. Congrats on reaching your goal weight!

Thank you! 134lbs in 12 months is amazing! I'm hoping to get down from 220 to 150 in a year, so maybe my goal is attainable then. Any additional I can lose would just be icing on the cake. Ideally I should be around 130-140lbs and I'll work to get there too, just trying to set a realistic goal for my 1st year to keep me motivated. Congrats on your success so far!

Hi!

Min 5'3" and weighted 250 at the beginning of my journey to revise from a lap band to RNY. I was told by everyone I'd lose slower than most because I was having a revision and not a first time wls. I lost all of my excess weight (normal BMI is 141)within 9 months and am now below goal at 125 and I'm 16.5 months out. If you are 100% compliant to everything the vets here tell you (not nessarly your dr or nutritionist) you may get to goal very quickly. Bit I didn't cheat once while I was in the losing phase. I worked it like it was my job every single day. Now I struggle to maintain and it's harder but I'm figuring it out and even lost the Christmas weight I gained again thanks to all the wisdom I've received from reading and interacting here. Stay and participate and you'll be successful. Best of luck to you.

Lap band: 2006. Revision to RNY 9/23/2016

That's amazing! Congrats on your success! I started making some changes here and there as I learn more and thankfully slowly started losing a little here and there. I had gained 10lbs a while back but lost it recently. I'm about to start a preop diet so I'll hopefully get the ball rolling in the right direction on my own and then use the surgery to help me along. Thanks for sharing. :)

I lost 130 lbs within my first 12 months. I was 5 foot 7 upper side of the 2's when I had my surgery. I followed the rules to a T and worked out ... in the beginning before surgery and just after walking as much as I could. Then couple months later I began using the elptical. Followed by decline sit-up bench and hand weighs. It is a whirlwind! Very exciting!!

Definitely hard work and a lifestyle change. I was very good for 7 years and then fell off track with working out and struggled a couple years and regained some. I went back to basics and my exercise and I am nearing my goal once again.

Congratulations to you!!! Your life is about to change for the better!!! So many wonderful things ahead. Still a struggle though and you have to watch it. Stay with support... so important and something I did not have in the beginning that possibly could have helped me not fall off track. I am now coming up on 10 years in May. Will be good to celebrate that anniversary back at my goal. Having the support has helped a lot.
