My surgery is on the 19th...

...and I am feeling so many feelings. (Thankfully, I am not eating them.) A friend of mine suggested I connect with this community so here I am, and I am so glad you all are here! My pre-op nutrition plan officially begins Monday, but I'm already trying to be as aware as possible of my intake. I think giving up coffee will be really hard, but the trade-off will be worth it.

I wish the best for all of you regardless of where you are with your journeys and look forward to making connections here with others who understand.

Have a great Saturday!

Welcome! When is your surgery (month) and which one are you having?

OH is a great community and you will learn a lot. Spend time searching on topics that are of interest to you and read old posts as any questions you may have have probably been answered/discussed already. Good luck!

Hello, and thank you for the reply and advice! I am having the gastric bypass this month. This decision has been years in the making and now that it's almost here, I am nervous and excited all at once. I also have this fear that something last minute will come up and prevent me from having surgery. Not sure why I am even thinking about that--I guess it's because I have gone through a lot to get here and now that the time is drawing near, I don't want anything to go wrong.

Not sure if that makes sense, but that's where I am right now.

Congrats on your surgery date!

I felt every single thing you mentioned; anxiety, excitement, fear it might be cancelled somehow; I totally understand. It was weird because I worried for so long and then didn't actually experience surgery...I just was put out and when i woke up, it was done, and I was still worried about having surgery, but it was all over, lol.

Edited to say, I did get the surgery but was unconscious so didn't experience it or have any memory of it, yet the entire time preop I was worried about it. I"m not explaining this right, sorry.

The time will go by quickly.

The 19th of February? If so, mine is the 15th, and I've started a 2 week pre-op liquid diet as of Thursday. I can be your guinea pig ;) what is your pre-op nutrition plan? They're all different.

Hi there!

How are you doing?

I apologize for not replying sooner. My job is very stressful and being prepared to be away took a lot out of me. How did your surgery go? Mine was Monday and I came home Tuesday.

No problem, I was in the same boat preparing to leave my job! I'm off for 4 weeks. My surgery went fine, and I was in the hospital overnight. Once home I was able to drink about 4 oz per hour, and it's been a struggle getting my minimun 64oz of fluids especially because the pain meds knocked me out so I'd sleep instead of drink! But after a few days I was able to stop with the pain med and the drinking is much better. I'm still on liquids, and even though I'm not hungry, I'm definitely itching to have new flavors and textures! It's officially one day past the one week mark today and I feel pretty good :)

It is great to hear you are doing well!

I am struggling with the water intake as well. I haven't gotten in 64 oz in a day yet, but not for a lack of trying. I, too, rested a lot. I am much more awake today. I went 9 hours without pain medication and I am hoping to increase that time and then fully be off the pain med by the end of the weekend. I want to be realistic and honest with myself regarding how I am feeling, though. I am all about goals, but need to be sure they are reasonable!

My movement goal today is 20 minutes--4 rounds of five-minute walks. I have a way to go with my water, but I did have some herbal tea and a little bit of vegetable broth earlier today, so that helps.

You are past the first week! That is a great milestone! :) Do you have a post-op visit soon?

Lol I'm actually in my first post op right this minute waiting for the doctor. I'm down 7 lbs since surgery. It feels good to get out and about, and I'm hoping to run a few errands too. We've had nasty weather so I haven't been getting outside to walk, I've just been pacing the house. I'm doing much better about fluids today and haven't taken paid meds in a few days. The last time I did was just to get comfortable so I could fall asleep. I'll probably need a nap when I get home after doing this running around lol

7 lbs down? WAY TO GO! I cannot wait to get outside more! Aside from checking the mail and walking a little in my driveway, I have not been outside as much as I want and need to be. My neighborhood has a lot of steep hills and my husband's work schedule has been insane, so getting to the gym or local track hasn't been possible yet. No pain meds for two days now. I am starting to get a tad stir crazy at home and I am debating on getting out on my own, but I am sure it will make me tired. Probably need someone with me. :)

How did the rest of your day go with being out and about? My first post-op appt isn't until March 7. I am hopeful to see a loss but working hard to not have a set expectation around it. I am trying to stay in the day and grateful that this step has finally happened.

I hope you are having a great Sunday!
