Costco food court question

We shop at Costco and my wife always gets the Sundae. I looked at everything and there really isn't one single item that is good or safe at any stage of the program. I bring a Quest bar with me now, that or a Caveman Primal Chicken bar. The Caveman bar is such a beautiful travel item, as it is 130 cals and 18 grams of protein (so on profile). But I don't worry about the sodium because I eat low sodium and limit myself to only 1 major processed item a day (max). My numbers always show below target in MFP. Run from the food court. Or buy the 25 cen****er and pour in a flavoring. Good luck..

I'm not commenting on the Costco food, specifically, but more about the soft food phase... Just an FYI that dense proteins (chicken, turkey, beef, sometimes even fish) can be surprisingly tough to get down in the soft food phase. Prepare yourself to be extra cautious about what is soft enough, and know that you probably won't want to be trying out new foods in public for awhile!

Also, as I think you have gotten from the other posters--your tastes will change a lot post-op. Lots of us are extra sensitive to greasy foods now that we didn't even notice, pre-op. I feel pretty confident in saying that food court food will not even be tempting to you in the first few months. It will again, someday, but probably not while you are on the soft food stage.

We use to be Costco members. I don't know if anything is good to eat at the food court. Maybe the salads eventually? I am 4 days shy of being 5 months post op and still can not handle salads. We shop at Sams Club. there food court sells individual Premier Protein shakes along with salads. Usually I drink my water or snack on cashews and let the kids have a dog or slice of pizza. Last time the family went out to eat anywhere I drank my premier protein drink. Good luck

That would be a good place to trial different premire flavors.

I occasionally eat the toppings off pizza, but it seems I was a few months out before I tried this. I also eat full-fat salad dressing, but not much of it - maybe a couple of tablespoons tops. But that, too, was a ways out (maybe six months out). Raw veggies (like in salads) can be really tough on your stomach the first few months post-op. Like the others, I can't tolerate really greasy things anymore - in fact, they're not even appealing.

My parents like to eat hotdogs at the Costco food court.

Eight years post RNY I stuffed down half of one and it sat in my stomach all nite like ( very toxic tasting and greasy ) lead balloon. I also tasted a couple of spoonfuls of a strawberry parfait which other than being way too sweet ( and which would have made me dump had I continued) tasted delicious was sold at a great price and actually is pretty low fat .

My experience eating fast food post op is that it ruins my otherwise thank God excellent health and expands my waistline faster than can be imagined - way out of proportion to the so called sodium, toxins and ( supposed) calorie count . My conclusion - cheap food's not worth it !

My family and I shop at costco a lot and often times we all stop at the food court. (Im pre-op btw) My favorite item is the chicken bake or the pizza which I know are both not the healthiest. Wondering though if it will be ok after surgery (on occasion) to take a spoon and eat a couple bites of the filling out of the chicken bake? Also will that count as soft foods? Another question, as Im further after surgery will I be able to eat the toppings off of pizza? I also saw they have a salad but it has full fat dressing, is that ok? We go to Costco a lot, Im just wondering what my options are. Im not anticipating eating out too much but I know the Costco food court will come up.

why are you worried about full fat dressing and not worried about the much fuller fat insides of the sandwich?

I don't eat at the Costco food court. There is nothing available that is reasonably healthy and will fuel my body well. If I'm there with others, I just drink water or a Premier Protein drink, eat nothing, or nibble on something I've just bought (e.g. nuts, fruit, etc). I won't starve if I miss that "meal" with my family or friends. I'm much pickier about the quality of food I eat post-WLS, so fast food is very rarely on my menu.

I eat at Costco at least once a week. I get a slice of pizza and eat about 1/3 to 1/2 of the toppings and then throw the rest away (Hey, it is $1.99). When I am really hungry, I'll add a salad minus the croutons, and toss the dressing. I will eat some of the cheese, lettuce and tomato. I will save the chicken for dinner and lunch the next day. It is a cheap meal.

I am in maintenance, so it was a couple of years down the road.
