Costco food court question

My family and I shop at costco a lot and often times we all stop at the food court. (Im pre-op btw) My favorite item is the chicken bake or the pizza which I know are both not the healthiest. Wondering though if it will be ok after surgery (on occasion) to take a spoon and eat a couple bites of the filling out of the chicken bake? Also will that count as soft foods? Another question, as Im further after surgery will I be able to eat the toppings off of pizza? I also saw they have a salad but it has full fat dressing, is that ok? We go to Costco a lot, Im just wondering what my options are. Im not anticipating eating out too much but I know the Costco food court will come up.

You may be surprised by the foods that just don't appeal to you anymore after surgery. I'm a big costco fan myself and I used to hit the food court occasionally. I had the pizza (combo toppings) a few months back and after years of thinking it was decent/OK I suddenly thought it was really nasty. Bad cheese and the sauce was too sweet. I'm almost a year out of surgery and I occasionally eat "bad things" but I'm much more picky. Now if I'm going to eat a slice of pizza I make sure it's worth it.

Also, chicken, especially breast, is one of the tougher things to eat post RNY. It might take a couple of months or even longer before you can get chicken down.

I hope you like fish!

...plus you will be amazed at how you can watch your family eat food court food and you will be sipping water and it will not even bother you(at least not enough to grab the pizza out of their hands lol)

I would give the Costco food court a miss until you're cleared for all foods. Although I did see one location that had beef chili and a lot of people do well with Wendy's chili during the soft stage. As for the chicken bake--I think it's funny that you remark that the salad has full-fat dressing--the chicken bake is way worse in terms of fat. It's a deliciously unholy mix of chicken, cheese and creamy dressing. It's possible that you might find it too rich post-surgery.

At our Costcos here on the west coast they have the turkey provolone sandwich which is nice and a brisket sandwich. The meat is a bit on the greasy side to me, but pretty tasty and easy to take apart and eat just the meat. And just the plain hot dog would be a not terrible choice without the bun. As for myself, I don't tolerate hot dogs as well these days, so I steer clear. I also find their pizza to be too greasy. My husband loves the polish sausages tho.

Costco itself though is full of fantastic stuff for post-WLS eating. Giant bags of string cheese, packages of boiled eggs, great meat perfect for dropping in the crock pot. They used to have a protein powder that was all whey isolate, but they stopped carrying it here a while ago, but if you like the Premier Protein shakes, that's about the best place to get them.

The hot dogs are really good pre op but 9 years post I still find them too greasy to eat. My teenage eating machine son runs to get one while I check out.

When you can eat (solid food fase) you can pick up stuff from Costco (main store, not food court) and join the family for dinner. Items you can eat after you do your shopping : turkey jerky (it's very soft), chicken skewers (they are pre cooked and can be eaten right out of the package), cheese rolled with salami/prosciutto. The options are endless, you don't have to buy from food court.
