What's on your menu today (Wednesday) RNYers?
I had cream of wheat, mashed potatoes all sorts of crazy stuff on my post op list, but I listened to the vets when they said focus on protein. So I ended up having greek yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, small chili from Wendy's, ricotta bake. If you haven't already I highly suggest checking out http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ Her recipes have saved me more than once.
Remember our surgeons are great cutters, but when it comes to post op nutrition they aren't always right and neither are the dieticians/nutritionist they send us to. Not many of them are truly versed in what a WLS patient needs.
You got this. :)
Ricotta bake was my favorite!
I still make it!

I was looking at my list of approved foods and was completely befuddled! LOL. I was like, um, do my surgeon and nutritionist know that I am a diabetic? How is this allowed? Is this magic surgery? LOL. I'll focus on my protein!
I am reviewing theworldaccordingtoeggface right now. She is full of information! Thank you!

Same was true for me. My early suggested foods included saltine crackers, mashed potatoes and applesauce, all of which are mostly carbs. I am so glad that I came on OH and learned from successful people to eat my protein and ditch the carbs. At your point, I was just switching from purees to soft foods. I am lactose intolerant so I couldn't eat yogurt and cottage cheese. I made myself pureed salmon, tilapia, chicken and turkey. In soft foods, I mostly ate salmon, tuna and tilapia. I started steamed shrimp by about the first month or 6 weeks. For some reason all of the fish really sat well for me. It varies between people, but eggs were easy for me, particularly hard boiled. Chicken is almost universally hard because it gets dry and stuck. I did have some success with chicken breast tenders cooked in the crock pot with SF BBQ sauce...yum!
I will just add to what others have said that my surgeon and nutritionist did not have my best health in mind with their food suggestions. I am almost a year post-op and they still encourage me to eat alot of carbs and can't grasp why my health and weight loss are better than their average. Oh well. I am grateful to them for other things.

I am 3 years out and still struggle with Boneless Chicken Breast, I prefer to smoke chicken or eat rotisserie chicken.
