OMG. I had a whole huge story about this picture I'm including, and my whole post, and then OH ate it while I was trying to format the image. GEEZ. Short version of the story I originally typed: there was this bald eagle in my backyard and I grabbed my zoom lens. Maybe sometime I'll go back and tell you about the squirrel he was eating and the huge red tailed hawk that swooped in for the leftovers

QOTD: Super clumzy here! I spill my coffee more times than anyone I know. I always have random bruises because I knock into things. I'm positive caffeine withdrawl is exacerbating the situation.

Breakfast: not really hungry this morning, so coffee (decaf) with SF creamer

Snack: I have a Greek L&F to eat at some point today.

Lunch: Leftover turkey chili (froze the rest of the leftovers for DH to eat while i'm on liquids)

Dinner: Peach Ginger chicken. Got the recipe from someone on here, my apologies I can't remember who!

Great shot! Bald eagles are so amazing, aren't they? I love red-tailed hawks, too.

He flew away right over my head. Wingspan had to be 5 ft at least! I couldn't get my camera focused fast enough to catch that since I was zoomed in too close for the still shots.

The hawk was gorgeous! The squirrel carcass dangling from his talons not so much lol

I used to live on an avocado ranch/farm/plantation high up in the mountains overlooking the city of Santa Barbara, and the beautiful Pacific. My house was (somewhat crazily - this is earthquake country) perched at the edge of the steep plunging hillside. I could see hawks as they would rise from below on an updraft, until they were eye-to-eye with me. It really was amazing! I'd see them plunge, then rise and fly off, often with a snake dangling from their talons. Once, at night, while sitting on the porch in the dark and watching the moonrise, an enormous, utterly silent shape glided over me, just clearing the porch, and diving down into the steep canyon. A minute later, no more than five feet away, a huge pale owl rose in the air and just hung there, wings fully spread, for a very long beat, assessing me. I often heard them in the night up there hunting, their cries that of a killer - I always hastened inside when I heard them because there really is something creepy and eerie in their screams! I love hooting owls, especially the barred owl, but the screech of the barn owl is a fearful thing!
