Same old problem--cannot eat, no appetite

Wouldn't the endoscopy I had show if it was H-pylori? How would I get it in the first place? I have had these food issues for the entire ten years since my RNY in 2007. It just seems that I am becoming unable to eat at all. I used to be able to eat a larger variety of food but as I became nauseous more and more, I lost all appetite or even the desire to try and eat differently. I don't want to die, just not have to eat.

This too will pass, like a kidney stone but it will pass!

H pylori can be detected via a blood test, not an endoscopy. Not sure how my dad got it. Likely some sort of gut microbe imbalance.

Pre-op you were likely tested for it. But outside of that, It's not a standard test.

my sister tested positive for it before her WLS, but had zero symptoms. Antibiotics were prescribed.

My H-Pylori (and my daughter's) were done with a simple test that we had to 'blow' our air into this little bag... they sent that out and tested it. I thought it was really weird, but apparently it's effective.

So you might also look into that.

I wonder if there are different levels of tests?

No answers ... just hugs and sympathy. Couldn't hurt to get tested for h-pylori could it ?

Oh TrafficDonna I'm sorry you are experiencing pain. I remember having such symptoms as you, and someone wrote in about exaggerated sypmtoms and so I kept reading. Her symptoms were similar to yours and she was at her wits end because no one could help her. Then another poster wrote in explaining she had similar symptoms for YEARS and finally a dr told her she had an extreme case of acid reflux or something similar but it did not present itself on ANY tests and so for a long time even the dr was stumped. I do apologize for not remembering the OP's name or the post but it is here on this site. Try the problems after surgery section. I love reading posts on this site because questions are answered that aren't answered anywhere else.

I would get a referral to a GI specialist - or just schedule directly with one if you don't need a referral. If you're unable to see a bariatric doctor, that's your next best option.

However, some bariatric surgeons are also general surgeons, so you might be able to schedule with one of those as well.

I am not sure how that would help me. I have had endoscopy which showed no problems (just in the last 6 months) except that my pouch is unusually small. I have had colonoscopy to check for any issues from the other end--nothing.

No acid reflux, no irritation of the esophogus or stomach lining, nothing to cause stomach distress. Unfortunately Medicare needs an actual diagnosis to approve procedures and there is nothing to diagnose. I do appreciate your comments and your support. Thank you.

Presumably neither you nor your PCP are gastrointestinal specialists. We see specialists to access their, well, specialized knowledge. As you're having gastrointestinal issues that neither you nor your PCP can figure out, why wouldn't you opt to see a medical care provider with a chance of having the knowledge to be able to figure things out?

I see my doctor again in 3 months. I will ask for a referral to a GI specialist if my Medicare and supplement will pay for it. I know it was like pulling teeth to get permission for the endoscopy to check things out back last spring.

This too will pass, like a kidney stone but it will pass!

What are your ferritin levels? When your iron was tested, what were ALL the results? There should be more than one lab result to determine if you are anemic.
