I am almost ready for surgery and have had leaky gut syndrome in the past. It was horrible and I'm scared if I ever get it again can I handle it okay with either a bypass or a sleeve? Let me hear from you on this!!

It was awful for me. What do you do for it? Are you on specific meds?

What is leaky gut syndrome exactly?

Yes, and I have IBS, too. Leaky gut and IBS go hand in hand.

I had my RNY in 2003 and the IBS only presented in 2015. I do not know which came first, the leaky gut or IBS. I don't know the role that my RNY played in leaky gut and IBS, if any. But I do know that my bariatric surgeon removing my gall bladder prophylactically did play a part, as did all of the antibiotics doctors prescribed for my chronic sinusitis and bronchitis, and my prior diet of processed foods, then a swim in bacteria infected waters in May 2014 and my Mom's death in Jan 2015 were the gasoline and match on the woodpile. I have not been the same since. I have very severe IBS and all of my HCPs have been unsuccessful in mitigating it.

If I recall correctly some patients have said their IBS got better after the RNY. My guess is that it is because they are eating more healthy, but that's just a guess.

I think I figured it out ... irritable bowel syndrome... like Chrons disease gluten allergy etc.

Well Ive always felt very grateful for anything that passed food through me as opposed to sticking every excess calorie on my apple shaped too-large stomach.
