Do you still have your band? I had my band removed and revised to RNY with only 40lbs to lose, but they did the surgery because I was suffering so much from the reflux etc. I would not have qualified for surgery without the need for the band removal at the same time.
I agree with the others--RNY is the better choice if acid is already a part of your life. I still have it occasionally, but it is nothing like life was like when I was banded. I have my life (and health!) back :)
Best of luck to you!
Losing and ( especially) keeping off fifty lbs is a huge achievement after any bariatric surgery.
My main complaint about the way bariatric surgeries are presented to us is that they're under designed specifically so we will only lose 50 percent or less of our excess weight.
I would advise choosing the most extreme surgery type you can possibly get - then and only then might you be able to live diet free without regain years post op.

Strongly disagree. Patient compliance is the number one reason patients fail to reach a healthy/goal weight.

As others have said, with heartburn, I wouldn't even think your doctor would do the sleeve... it can exasperate the issues and some end up having to revise to RNY because of it.
You can eat around any surgery you have... you MUST figure out how to deal with that.
Drinking and eating at the same time with RNY not only will make it possible (likely) to gain weight, but it can and likely will stretch your stoma, which will take any restriction you have and ruin it.
So the work on the brain is still real, no matter which surgery you choose. And it's the hardest part to control.
Neither surgery will be your magical solution to stay thin.

They really don't recommend NSAIDs for either surgery anymore. Not everyone will get an ulcer but kind of like playing a game of Russian roulette. I have very bad arthritis and losing the weight helps tremendously.

Hi,
I had a lapband, sleeve and RNY. However, I was very compliant with the lapband, mostly with the sleeve and only had the RNY because of hernia and reflux issues and some regain over a period of a decade. Personally, I wouldnt have a RNY if you don't plan on being compliant long term. YOu most certainly can eat around this surgery, regain all your weight if you are not compliant. Really....!!
