He is doing good. However, a friend asked him to go out on the boat and now his feet are swollen. I need a sledge hammer for a hard head!

Good morning everyone! Woke up to rain today. I haven't been following the weather like I usually do so it was a surprise to me. That's okay, sweater and boots for the win! I need to search my photos for a different before picture. The full body ones are scarce!

Has anyone noticed that their taste is off or different for salty and sweet things? Lately I have been wanting my coffee sweeter and sweeter and can't seem to taste salt as well either. Does this mean anything? Some sort of deficiency or is the super spicy cinnamon gum I chew killing my taste buds, lol?!

QOTD - What would I do tomorrow?? Wake up early-early (I love mornings) drink lots of coffee, take the dogs out, load the crock pot with something yummy, visit my dad, maybe shop, catch up on my DVR shows and totally relax!

Accountability - good!!

14 mo post op

B-coffee w/hc, HB eggs

L-meatballs w/marinara and parm

d-eggs and bacon

v/l - on track

Have a wonderful day!

Sweater and boots for the win indeed! Gotta love the cold season for those two things alone!

So for me post surgery my tastes buds changed several times.

  1. Pre surgery I was a sweet-a-holic and did not like anything salty!!!! I hated salt pre surgery.
  2. Post surgery I hated anything sweet and my sense of smell was extra strong
  3. At approx 6 months post op I started to crave spicy food, the more spicy the better and I wanted more salt!!!
  4. At approx 2 years post op my sweet tooth came back with a vengeance and has continued to plague me daily with wanting sweets. I also still craved spicy and salty
  5. Mid year 3 I noticed I was craving salty all the time. I could not get enough salt and I for the first time in my life started to salt all my food, all food and lots & lots of salt. Sweet cravings still there!
  6. I am 4 years + 2 months post op now, I still crave sweet, and yes very sweet stuff. I still love my spicy and salty stuff as well.

Sorry I have no idea if it is a vitamin deficiency thing, you might want to ask this question as a stand alone on the main board or the RNY board but I pretty much have the same "tastes" as you.

Interesting topic- pre surgery i loved sweets and snacks in general - salty nuts fat free ( possibly) potato and tortilla chips , breads and beans of all types

post op I cant stand sweets except for maybe a taste out of curiosity. Don?t like very salty either - i prefer my air popped popcorn pre-toasted for taste but otherwise salt and condiment free .

I never did like fats like cheese and nut butters but post op I notice I can eat them and occasionally I crave fats. I still very much like avocado and even part skim ricotta and fresh mozzarella in recipes.

I still love new tastes and spices but no longer enjoy very spicy choices especially burning pepper laden ones . I used to actually be a collector and user of incredibly hot habanero sauces .. so this is a radical departure.

I have a hard time eating fresh fruit and traditional salads post op- barely cooked sauced vegetables I?ll snack on and enjoy all day long. For me the weirdest thing post op is how much less time I spend cooking , shopping for food and eating.

Thank you for sharing!! My sense of smell is that of a bloodhound! Everyone looks at me like I'm crazy when I say - can't you smell that?? I'm doubling up my splenda, salt and spice on everything, it's crazy!

I may just put that up on the board -thanks Daisy!!

Cinnamon gum can definitely temporarily affect your taste buds. Years ago I went through a spell when I chewed it like crazy until I realized that I couldn't taste a lot of other things. It took at least a couple of weeks (maybe more) for my tastebuds to get back to normal. Peppermint doesn't seem to have the same effect.
