What did they tell you to expect? You should be able to have a dialogue with the office. It's insightful to determine how responsive they are ahead of time.

At my initial appointment I met with the nutritionist, surgeon and his surgical first assistant (and wife). Went IEP medical history, weight loss attempts, surgical options/risks and left with a bunch of orders for tests.

This sounds a lot like my first consultation appointment...

It was a group atmosphere... little presentation from the PA, getting weighed, meeting with the doctor and PA, nutritionist, and filled out a TON of paperwork... got the 'tour' and sales spiel on all of the BA friendly foods/vitamins they sold there.

My first appt was with the Doctor (not the surgeon) who weighed me (that will be your start weight) and explained all that would take place over the journey before surgery. He discussed with me the types of surgeries and what he thought would work best for me (based on my BMI and my eating habits). We talked about what my hopes/expectations were. Then he said he'd start setting up appts for me and that I had to lose 20% of my weight before surgery or no surgery (now this part is different with every doctor/State/Insurance requirements). He will set up appts for you and tell you what you'll be doing to get the "approval" of the insurance provider. Best of Luck!
