Surgery probably cancelled
Hi All. So my surgery is scheduled for Tuesday next week. Last night I forgot to plug in my phone. When it was finally charged at 515 today I had a voicemail from the bariatric team coordinator. She said she needed to talk to me regarding my bloodwork.
I have mild stage 2 kidney disease. I also have Fatty liver disease. I saw my labs last week on my portal. I knew they weren't great but I am on the preop ketosis diet and they did them without me fasting and I didn't get a chance to hydrate.
These are the worst parts:
urea nitrogen/creatinine ratio, serum 31.8
urea nitrogen, blood 35
potassium, serum 5.3
erythrocyte (RBC) count 3.95
egfr 55
aspartate aminotransferase (SGOT), serum 41
Alkaline Phosphatase, Serum/Plasma 57
alanine aminotransferase (SGPT), serum 39
So I call back, they are of course gone for the day. I am afraid this surgeon won't do the surgery. What other reason could they have to call me 8 days after these labs were done. I can't stop blubbering.
Then I have to have stress test and a echo cardiogram tomorrow at 730. I also receive a call from the imaging people saying they don't have insurance approval. Of course they are closed too. I called the insurance company and they have no record at all for approval of a echo or stress test.
The cards are stacked against me and I am fearful. The RNY was my only hope for a healthier life. I am miserable.

Take a few deep breaths. I know you're worried right now, but there's no reason to borrow trouble. The nurse probably just wanted to talk to you about your results and what you'll need to be aware of going forward. Don't assume that everything is the worst and surgery will be cancelled.

Pretty much everybody obese has fatty liver unless they're a mutant so that's certainly not gonna make them cancel your surgery.

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that surgery is cancelled forever. It's entirely possible that the surgeon may want to delay it a bit, but you'll still be able to have surgery eventually.
Don't give up hope completely!!

Listen to the other nice people. Don't climb the walls all weekend.
The main reason behind the preop diet is to help your liver. Super low carb diets will do that. Maybe focus on cutting all carbs now, in case you need to redo bloodwork, or have a longer preop diet. It will at least give you something to do while you wait.
Always keep your phone charged! What if Dialing For Dollars called?
