ALT/AST blood work concerns
Hi Everyone,
I just got my results back for my blood work as I have my appointment with my surgeon next week. All looks good except for high ALT and AST. I'm 16 months post op and at/below goal. I'm still eating low carb on most days although I've had my moments. My ALT on 10/2017 was 52 and 1/2018 is 133. My AST on 10/2017 was 35 and 1/2018 is 63. Thoughts? I know I'll see the surgeon next week but I'm concerned. Any input would be appreciated. Seems kind of long since surgery to still have elevated levels.

I am 3 1/2 years out and I still have slightly elevated liver enzymes. I don't think it is that uncommom as the liver has to process all that fat we are losing. Plus I've had additional surgeries since then and the Doctor said inflammation can cause it as well.
My last blood work in September, one was finally normal, and the other still elevated. I just went for blood work last week but haven't gotten the results yet.

Hello my name is Chasity my ALT is at 38 which is not to bad. But, if it goes any higher it would be considered liver cancer. Which I am a year cancer survivor as it is. I was told if my ALT gets up to 100 I am in trouble again with cancer but in the liver this time. So I am going in for gastric bypass surgery to help me lose some weight so there is not that much going to the liver. Next week I will be going in for more blood work and other types of test before my surgery. What question's should I ask my surgeron?
It's very common but some docs will have you jumping through test hoops because they don't understand the physiology of this surgery and the effect on other organs. I trust your surgeon knows better.
Incidentally, it's the reason why it's recommended NOT to drink alcohol while you are in rapid weight loss.

I don't drink alcohol and never have. Unless sugar alcohol counts.
