Revision surgery
Hi All. One week to go til surgery! I just need to pass my echo and stress test for my heart.
I had a lapband that was taken out 3 years ago. Now I am going in for the gastric bypass.
Did any of you have any problems with the switch from the lapband to the gastric bypass? I have been told by the surgeon that there may be adhesions/scar tissue that would make it impossible to do the gastric bypass.

I had my revision surgery 2.5 years ago, but was able to have the band remove and the RNY done on the same day. My surgeon had to repair a hernia and removed a little bit of scar tissue but all of that was expected and didn't cause any complications. I thought this surgery was a little easier to recover from than when my band was placed for the first time, but that might have been because I knew what to expect and was in better shape the 2nd time around...?
I was really worried about whether I was setting myself up to have the same negative symptoms with the RNY that I had had with the band, but it is a whole different experience! I used to suffer from terrible acid reflux and vomitted almost every bite. In over two years, I have had just a handful of times when either of those have been an issue. I feel like I have my life back! I don't think I really understood how ill I was with the band, until I was better.
Be prepared that revision patients often lose a little slower than people who had surgery for the first time. But you can still get to goal quickly if you follow a low carb, high protein diet and are laser focused. I was able to get to under my goal in just under 9 months.
Good luck!

Howdy, went from lapband to sleeve to RNY and no complication. My band had prolapsed so it was removed, converted to sleeve and then RNY.

August 2017 I had a band to by-pass revision, along with a couple hernia repairs. Best decision I ever made. I think my recovery might have taken a couple days longer than just by pass. I am 53 years old. I was off of work for 3.5 weeks, desk job. Follow Doctor's instructions, don't rush the different phases of food. When you are in the soft phases it seems like it is taking forever, but seriously it will be like a blink of an eye and you will be 6 months out and loving your decision. I can eat anything I want, but I want to lose weight so I eat smart. Its amazing how such a little amount of food can make you feel FULL. its perfect. I love my decision.
