Hoping to get a surgery date

After completing a long list of bloodwork, x-rays, tests and getting surgical clearance from all my specialists, I hope to get a surgery date when I have my office visit this week. I have not wanted to "jinx" myself by going out and buying vitamins and protein powders etc. I have gotten a water bottle that I can carry around and a couple other items that I can use whether I have the surgery or not. I am apprehensive and hopeful that I have made the right decision. I feel I have, however, have not told my family or friends. Anytime bariatric surgery comes up in conversation, their comments are negative. When they see me losing the weight and getting healthier, maybe they will be more positive. In the meantime, I have my husband supporting my decision.

Part of how people respond is how we present it to them. Your confidence in your decision will come across when you are ready.

Lot of three negativity is out of fear or ignorance.

I'm almost 6 years out and I can tell you, you just won't win over some people. I have maintained my 150 weight loss - so complete success story right? Yet some people still say oh, I would never have that done! My best advice: you are doing this for you. You are about to encounter some really hard days and a supportive partner is awesome and you will need that but you need to be 100% all in. So, it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. To the people who look at me and say negative things? I just walk away knowing that I feel great, look great, am so much healthier and happier. What I have found is that most of the negative pre op comments come from two places worry or ignorance. If your family is really worried then reassure them that this is safe and how much healthier you will be.
