That does sound great! Do you get a commission if you sign people up?

Edited to add: Sorry - that sounds snarky. It wasn't meant that way. Just trying to figure out how something like that might work financially.

They collect all of our movement data through GPS. Every step. Every store we visit, the amount of time we spend there. Everything. Then they sell that data. A small amount of the money they get paid for selling our personal information they give to us in exchange for surrendering our privacy.

No thanks.

Ten years ago if there was a requirement for every citizen to carry a device that allows them to be traced wherever they are, there would have been an enormous protest. But we just carry our cell phones everywhere and can always be located.

People scream about "big government." But they willingly turn over the smallest details of their lives to big business with hardly a second thought. It's frightening.

Sweatcoin, which is based in London, awards its users with digital currency -- one "coin" for every 1,000 steps you walk or run while using the app. Save up enough coins and you can exchange them for real-life products and services, like workout gear or a yoga class. Coins can even be sent to friends or donated to buy items for charity.

To help it distinguish outdoor steps, Sweatcoin collects and analyzes GPS signals and motion data from your phone.

so is it free to users Laura? No cost to sign up or anything?

I'm just now getting the full impact of digital currencies so please excuse my lack of education.

No cost to sign up. I have not used it myself just my teenager who is very excited about it. I am psyched that he is motivated to exercise and lose weight. Hopefully he has no private info he would not like known. There is no recruiting money to get other users. No underlying motive. Just interesting info. I think he signed me up but I have not used it. I have to use my phone for work and I have so much on there already. He was excited and I thought I would share the info if anyone else might be motivated. You could use your coin for charity or towards another healthy product.
