How soon after RNY can we have small pickles?
I mean the kind with very little or no sugar, like mini dill pickles or small cornichons? I am craving pickles very bad. I'm only 11 days out so still on protein shakes, water and Vitamin Water Zero. I know they have a slight crunch but figure taking small bites and really chewing, the pickles are pretty soft. Just wonder how vinegar would do on a new pouch.
I'd say 11 days is too soon. I tried dill relish in egg salad around 6 weeks or so, and I'd go that route if you really want it. You probably are actually craving salt, so I'd try adding some salt to your food. We get very little sodium at first.
Also, now is a good time to practice telling your cravings to f-off. This one is pretty benign but they will keep happening.

In summary, I was instructed to be kind and gentle to my healing "innerds." I stayed away from acidy things like tomato, citrus, coffee, and the like. Maybe a quick phone call to your bariatric team to ask if the vinegar in pickles is not kind and gentle enough? At eleven days out, an envelope of Unjury brand protein-rich chicken broth satisfied any salt craving (www.unjury.com).

Thank you all for the advice! I need to learn how to communicate more clearly...I'm only 12 days out now...I have NO INTENTION of eating pickles! I haven't even started mushy foods yet like soft eggs...I won't eat them until cleared by my surgeon. I was just craving them in my mind so out of curiosity wanted to hear when other people did eat them.
Thanks for the idea about Unjury Chicken broth. Yes, it may well be a sodium craving as I have ONLY had sweet things post-op. I actually have a massive sweet tooth in the past but now that I'm a RNY-er I know I have to leave all those beautiful French pastries, etc in the past. They were fun, but that time of my life is over.
I am NOT going to take ANY chance whatsoever to damage my pouch! This baby cost me over $20,000 because I had to self-pay! I am playing it safe, I promise!
Thank you for the support and advice!
