I knowvi should be surprised that a doctor would say this, but im not. Why prescribe something that you can't take? It makes zero sense. I take capsules for all sorts of things without it turning up whole in my poop lol. I'll bet there are tons of people who are non compliant because of this stupidity.

Apologies for directing my reply to you, Lucille, but you can't foregoe iron because of a doctor's stupid actions.

I take Proferrin by choice, so I'd always recommend that if a doc is trying to get you to take something that is so disgusting you don't take it. What is the point of that?

You are right. I should not be negating my iron responsibilities. I am going back on track tonight. My centre said capsules should be opened. Thanks:)

Apologies if I sounded harsh, I just get so upset when our medical teams set us up for failure. You deserve better.

I have had years of iron problems, infusions etc and it took me years to find Proferrin, which has been a lifesaver for me. I have to buy it privately, but if you can get a script from your doc, it will make taking your iron so much easier.

Here in the US, it costs $60 ish for a months supply, but is worth every cent

I don't think you were harsh. I needed that kick in the butt. I have seriously taken my iron since I read your response. This is no joke. You helped me :)

For me the fatigue lasted months. I really started to feel "normal" and back to regular energy levels by month six. Its totally normal and you just have to keep up your liquids and rest. This was major surgery and a major lifestyle change, be kind to yourself and rest when you need it.

Veggies in your stir fry and salad are way to soon for under 3 months in my opinion. I know I didn't add veggies until about month six and salad was probably month 8 or 9. Stick to protein and a small portion of veggie like a bit of broccoli or cauliflower. You can always check out the cauliflower "rice" lots of stores are selling. But keep your portion of veggie small to see how you tolerate it so early out. Veggies like celery, carrots are for much farther down the road, they are not as easy to get down.

Questions from co workers are never ending. I am four years post op and I STILL get people making comments to me. UGH. I choose to say thinks like "I eat a protein forward diet and cut out carbs." That is the truth. I chose to leave out that I had WLS, its no ones business in my opinion. Anyone that gets in your business and is super nosey tell them you don't ask about their salary so don't ask about my weight loss, and you can say it as a "joke," they will get the point.

Congrats on your weight loss. If you follow the plan of protein forward, low carb and drink lots of liquids the rapid weight loss can continue until you hit goal. Some people never stall and some do. We are all different. Enjoy the rapid weight loss now as it might change. Your weight loss is totally normal for almost three months out, I think you are right on track, keep doing what you are doing!

ETA: when I was taking Oral Iron pills I used Proferrin as I refused to open the Feramax capsules and drink the Iron. You can get Proferrin at Walmart. I am in Canada but there a lots of different GOOD brands available in the US or on Amazon. Heme Iron is the best form of Iron we can take.

I am 6 years out. Don't slack on the iron - I'm still struggling with that one. Six years later and people still comment on my weight. I now just answer, thank you. Early on - I said I was following a high protein diet. Then when I got close to goal weight (down 110 in one year) people asked if I had cancer!!!! Because I looked sick... ugh. So, the answer is people say dumb things. I quickly became quite good at the smile and nod. As for fatigue, it still plaques me if I don't play by the rules. So take it from us when we gently tell you to take your vitamins, drink your water and eat your protein. My body works very differently then it used to. I have to treat it as such. The bonus for you about your weight loss is it's the new year. Just make up some "new" crazy diet.

Lol... yes I'd definitely the perfect time for a crazy diet story. I've used the "I'm working on my health" advice that others gave quite a bit this week but I'm going to do the smile and nod thing too. I'm really working on the iron thing now. Thanks for the detailed response and the encouragement:)
