Listen, listen, listen to your surgeon!!
I had gastric bypass on May 28th, 2014 and lost 107 lbs. quickly with no problem. Not hungry, had to remember to eat. Gosh, I was loving life! Then I decided I knew more than my surgeon and his staff. I started eating more carbs, not walking as much and even had a drink now and then. I started to gain and was at the point where I had only lost 69 lbs. For over a year I started over and over again to take off the added weight and finish my weight loss journey with no results. So here we are at the beginning of a new year again. I am getting back on track. I finally found a great dietitian and even joined Weigh****chers new Freestyle program. Is it working, yes, I have lost 18 lbs. But here is the thing. This surgery works, like they say if you work it. What I didn't realize is, if you regain weight and try to lose it, it comes off like it did before surgery. You won't lose pounds quickly, like right after surgery. It was a huge surprise for me. So please, please follow what you surgeon says and lose the weight the first time around because after that it's like you never had the surgery.

Good for you for taking charge! You can do this.
I appreciate you coming back to this site with the warning. So many of us who are many years out from surgery try to warn newbies when we see red flag behaviors. We try to tell them that they are choosing the wrong foods to eat, or that drinking alcohol is a bad idea, only to be labeled as bullies. I've been on this site for over ten years and I know that ANY vet that calls out bad behavior is doing so because they want a newbie to be successful. It's not bullying. It's genuine concern.
Thanks for the reminder that WLS is a lifetime commitment.
