I will be a Newby on this RNY forum on the 27 of December 2017, my surgery date!
This is my first time on this forum as a upcoming RNYer officially approved for surgery! So grateful & excited! I am going to have my RNY in 3 days! This is my 3rd surgery. I had some problems with the Lab Band back in 2008. Could not find my sweet spot and I was hungry all the time. I regret getting this surgery it just made my acid reflux worse. Though I know there are lots of people that have not had any of those problems. Then I had a revision from the LB to the Sleeve in 2009, it was better with my weight loss for a little while, but my hiatal hernia became worse with extreme acid reflux. I eventually gained back my weight, went through stressful and depression times in my life with family members and I just recently lost my brother on the 13th of December just 9 days ago from bile duct and liver cancer, 4th stage. I found out that my gall bladder will be removed because I have gall stones.
So, now I'm finally going to get my RNY & all fixed up and lose some weight at the same time. Hopefully, I will be off of my Victoza, HBP pills and my Sleep Apnea will go away soon. Please no negative replies!
Blessings and Merry Christmas to all!!!
Well, I bet you'll be out of surgery by the time I post this. I pray you will have an easy recovery. I had a rather large hiatal hernia according to my surgeon which he repaired. I love coffee but it exacerbated my gerd if I didn't put a boatload of creamer in it. I started thinking a few days ago, maybe I don't need all that creamer so I put 2 tsp instead of 3 in my coffee. No problems at all and today, I used only a tsp and it was great. I like the flavored creamers but less is better. I've not had any gerd since surgery. I did ask my surgeon why bypass is better for gerd than the sleeve. He said your acid pumps are at the bottom of your stomach and so when they separate your pouch into 2 parts, the acid pumps are no longer able to push acid into your esophagus. With a sleeve, your acid pumps are still there and your tummy is smaller so if you have even the slightest problem with excess acid production, a small tummy makes it worse.
Happy New Year Kgrammy,
I no longer drink coffee, but before the nutritionist put me on the diet. I used to drink Kava Instant Coffee which is an acid reducer coffee. It was good but it was regular coffee they don't make de-caffeinated. So, I am going on without coffee these days, if I decided I will get a coffee brewer and get de-café. Thanks so much for chiming in.
