I will be a Newby on this RNY forum on the 27 of December 2017, my surgery date!
This is my first time on this forum as a upcoming RNYer officially approved for surgery! So grateful & excited! I am going to have my RNY in 3 days! This is my 3rd surgery. I had some problems with the Lab Band back in 2008. Could not find my sweet spot and I was hungry all the time. I regret getting this surgery it just made my acid reflux worse. Though I know there are lots of people that have not had any of those problems. Then I had a revision from the LB to the Sleeve in 2009, it was better with my weight loss for a little while, but my hiatal hernia became worse with extreme acid reflux. I eventually gained back my weight, went through stressful and depression times in my life with family members and I just recently lost my brother on the 13th of December just 9 days ago from bile duct and liver cancer, 4th stage. I found out that my gall bladder will be removed because I have gall stones.
So, now I'm finally going to get my RNY & all fixed up and lose some weight at the same time. Hopefully, I will be off of my Victoza, HBP pills and my Sleep Apnea will go away soon. Please no negative replies!
Blessings and Merry Christmas to all!!!
I don't post negative replies.
I share my experience as a 9 year post Rn y person.
You have never had this surgery. It does seem to bring relief from GERD. I don't have any problems with acid.
I do have problems with low iron.
You can learn a lot here and it can be the support to get you and keep you in maintenance weight for the rest of your life.
my GERD went completely away for the first two years. I do get it occasionally now (although I don't think I'd really call it GERD nowadays - it's more like occasional indigestion after drinking coffee and eating certain foods), but it's nothing that Tums won't take care of. So although I wi**** was completely gone like it was the first couple of years, compared to what it was pre-surgery, I can definitely live with this!
That's awesome I'm happy for you! Can hardly wait for an improvement for me with that hateful acid reflux. You are kicking butt with your RNY!!! Merry Christmas!!!
thanks!!
This site has been really crucial in my success. I check in at least once a day. The RNY daily menu thread has been especially helpful. I started reading/posting on there when I was about a year out, but probably should have started even sooner! I feel like the "regulars" on there have become my personal friends (some of them have even met IRL), so the support is great, and also, thinking about I'm going to eat for the rest of the day (most of us post early in the morning) helps keep me focused. Not that I've never veered off my daily plan - I have many times - but I think I'm more apt to stick to it if I plan it out rather than eat spontaneously. Also, there are many people on there who started out SMO, like I did, and have lost all of their excess weight. Statistically, that's pretty rare, but I knew I could do it after knowing so many people who had. So I credit that group as a huge part of my success!
So sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. Hugs to you!
I had RNY in January, 2017: acid reflux issue has been resolved. On my surgeon's instructions, I still take Nexium every day.
Thank you Ms Twinkles for your condolences. It's a little too early for me to say since I'm still on my liquid stage about the acid reflux, but so far no more. One thing for sure is that I have not been HUNGRY since I came out of surgery! Which I completely love! Thanks for replying. Happy New Year!!!
