Hit my personal mini goal

325 hw, 296 surg. weight (8/7/17), personal goal was 240 by Christmas. 2 days to go and I just hit 240. Honestly I feel like I'm loosing slow compared to everyone I read about here. But, considering all things I can't be too upset. Just got through a stall, was wavering between 245 and 243 for almost 3 weeks.

Found my body is really carb sensitive, if I eat more than 20g of carbs I will not loose, or i'll gain a lb or 2 then loose it (back and forth like that). I really wanted to hit 230 by the end of the year but I don't really see that happening unless some miracle comes through and I loose 10 lbs in 1 week so ya. I don't see that happening.

My next personal goal is to get to 230 by Feb.1. I really would love to loose 10 lbs a month, but i know that doesn't happen. My over all goal is to reach 190 by June. 50 lbs in 6 months sounds reasonable eh? When I can I want to do more walking. Right now I've lost all this with no exorcise at all. I feel like I would loose more if I could exorcise.

Really wish I had one of those bracelets that count's steps. I would go up to my local wal-mart and just walk for an hour or so. People would probably look at me weird, but I can't afford a gym atm, and walking outside is not possible.

My question to the vets is this, is 50 lb loss in 6 months a reasonable goal to strive for?

I'm not a vet, but I just wanted to say congratulations to you for hitting your mini goal! It seems to me that 50 pounds in 6 months should be doable, but we all lose at our own pace. As long as we are on plan, it will happen, hopefully sooner but if not it will happen a bit later, and be just as wonderful and exciting when it does. I started at 353 and 6.5 months later weighed in this morning at 247. Earlier on, I had a goal of hitting Onederland by the end of March, but that is most likely overly ambitious. So I feel that even if it takes me another month or two, I will welcome it with open arms and not be frustrated if it takes longer to achieve. Good luck to you, and congratulations!

The average loss at six months out is around 50% of excess weight lost. Have you used the OH Post-Op Planner? It was very accurate for my loss. I reached my goal in 14 months.

We are all different. Just keep following your plan and you will lose.

According to that.. I'm WAY behind. I should be at/around 229 by now. So I try not to rely on it, or I would get way to depressed. I have found that people with PCOS tend to loose slower than other people, and they tend to have a harder time. (There are different levels of PCOS, I would be considered on the higher end)

Exercise will absolutely help you reach your goals faster. It will also make you feel better.

That is what I figured. Before cancer diagnose I was walking a 1 1/2 miles a day and getting higher. Then cancer and surgery and all that good stuff. (currently No Evidence of Disease atm) But I lost my momentum and stopped walking like that. I want to get back into it. I know even a little exorcise will help with my over all health ;)

Walking around Walmart is definitely on the right track. I'm lucky enough to live in a big city and I really have no choice but to walk everywhere. I don't have a Fitbit or anything like that but most smartphones have a step counter built in. I have a goal of 10,000 steps a day which is about 4.25 miles. My longest consecutive days streak is 113 and I've literally paced my 500 square foot apartment in order to hit that goal sometimes.

The mindset you want to get into is that you want to always keep your body in motion. Be restless. Even if you're sitting you can be moving. Do chores you've been putting off. Clean the garage. Dance. Anything. I'm sure there's a million exercise videos on YouTube.

Keep this number in your head. 500. As in 500 extra calories you want to burn every day. If you're awake for 15-16 hours a day it's like 35-40 extra calories burnt per hour. 500 cals a day times 7 days is an extra pound lost per week. Think about how losing an extra pound per week would help you reaching your goals.

people lose at all different rates for all different reasons. I was a slow loser from the get-go (even the resident who was working at my clinic told me that - like I really needed to be reminded of that - jerk!!), but I really stuck to my plan and ended up losing all my excess weight. My high was 373, I had surgery at 316. At a year out, I was in the 190s. Then I lost another 50 lbs the second year. Just keep your nose to the grindstone and don't compare yourself to others (although I know it's hard!)

p.s. although I'd have to go back and check, I think I was about where you are at six months out - 240-ish. Don't worry - just keep sticking to your plan.

Thanks, I know we all have our own story... I just really wanted mine to be a super success. I track my weight on myfitnesspal so I can see a chart of how my weight loss has progressed and I literally hit a plateau almost every 3-4 weeks. It's frustrating because those plateaus are 2-3 weeks long every time.

It makes my brain think that I'm not being successful. But I don't sabotage my eating at least, and I still see myself loosing. I still see the really heavy person in the mirror though. Even though there are telltale signs I've lost like most clothes don't fit, new bra size, sleeping /sitting/standing/walking is even all different for me. I can't wait until my brain catches up to my body and I see the difference though. And I really want to be 190 at a year out.

My doctor told me to keep old milk jugs, and for every 8 lbs lost, fill one up and carry it around.

I lost 100% of my excess weight, so I'm statistically a super success (most people that start at my original BMI end up as "overweight" or "class I obese", but that wasn't good enough for me..). And my weight loss was slow compared to most people. I just quit paying attention to them and kept at close to 100% compliant until all the weight was gone. Just stick to it. There are a lot of factors that affect rate of weight loss that are out of our control (age, gender, metabolism rate, genetics, etc...). Just stay compliant and the weight will come off. You can do this!!
