exercise
I see a lot of people that exercise a lot and some that say exercise was not necessary for their weight loss or possibly even detrimental. I had a 3 week stall recently. I had a bad cold with a cough that wouldn't quit. I wasn't exercising. The past 3 days, I did a 2 mile walk on the treadmill. Today I got on the scale and had dropped 6 pounds. I am 4 months out. Still eating about 650 calories a day, under 40 carbs a day/ 20 sugars and getting protein and water in. I started at 341 and am now 226:-) I think I'm going to stick with exercising 4-5 times a week. It also just makes me feel good.
I'm curious what your exercise experiences are.. share?
I did no exercise the first 8 months and still lost over 100 pounds during that time period. Then, since I was feeling more energetic, I began exercising like a maniac. About the 2 year mark, life got busy and I stopped. I still maintained my loss so I realized exercise was not needed for me to maintain. Fast forward to about the 7 year mark when my boyfriend had a stroke. I realized I needed to be more active to keep my heart healthy. I got a fitbit and focus on getting at least 10,000 steps a day. This works for me.
Many studies have proven that exercise is only about 10% of the equation. What we eat makes much more of an impact on our weight.

I didn't start regular exercise until about 3 months out, did nothing before then. I lost no slower of faster with or without exercise IMO, but I also don't look for a relationship between loss & exercise.
I exercise for overall health/strength, not weight loss or maintenance. If that ends up being a benefit, fine. But I'm more interested in increased lung capacity, heart health, stamina etc. And fending off obesity related diseases.
I run, 2X a week- 6 miles each, and work out in the gym 2X a week.

At my center we were told that they ask us to exercise to get into the mindset and get a routine going, because at some point the weight loss stops and if you have good habits you will keep the weight off. Each person is different, but for me I feel like I start the day on a positive note when I exercise. I am more careful about what I eat. But I have always been this way so who knows. I guess each of us does what is best for her/him.

Exercise is so key to healthy living. I try to walk at least 4 miles a day and frequently walk as much as 6. I've been doing that since the very beginning. I walked a mile in the hospital hallways the day after my surgery!
It really depends on calories in vs calories out, when you get down to it. BUT, exercise can introduce things like temporary gains due to water retention and an increased appetite due to burning more calories. I personally think that the general health benefits outweigh any possible slow in weight loss.
That being said, I lost all the way to 15lbs below goal without a single week of stall. Sometimes I lost as little as .2lbs, but I never stalled! I have been working out since 2 weeks post-op. 2 weeks - 10 weeks I was only walking. At 10 weeks I got a trainer and started weightlifting and HIIT training. I worked with him until August and now I do Kettlebell workouts, hike, snowshoe, and run. My normal week includes 10 miles of running and 2 Kettlebell workouts. Exercise literally keeps me sane. The rush is amazing!

Kettle bells are great right? I would've never thought you can get so much benefit just from picking one up and lifting it over your head.
I love it, so much! We have a class here (I work at a University) that is super cheap ($40 for 10 weeks, 2x per week). I did that during fall semester, but will not be able to for spring because I have a surgery scheduled. So I have been improvising with some larger hand weights I have at home. I will buy myself a set if Santa didn't get the memo for Christmas

I would say activity is important, exercise less so (for losing...there are other benefits to exercise). I define exercise as anything that causes you to break a sweat. I was active:walking over 4.5+ miles every day throughout the losing phase. Exercise is something that worked in naturally as I lost weight and started participating in sports and other activities that I was enjoying.
