Hey all! So I had the mini gastric done and I'm just wondering if what I'm experiencing is normal. I made the mistake in listening to so many peoples stories and how they were pain free etc that I'm kinda freaking myself out. my stomach hurts quite a bit. Yes I realize though small holes it is still a major procedure but all I've heard and read was now minimal the pain is and easy the recovery. If I take really deep breaths it feels a bit tight and a little pressure in my stomach and sternum area and my stomach gets very crampy throughout the day. I also have a "dead spot" on my right thigh where it's lost most feeling ... I know this will be a roller coaster of every emotion possible, I just want to make sure that it may not be anything serious

Pain after surgery is completely normal. Not all of us had pain-free recoveries believe me. They used to call the week after surgery "hell week". No one really talked about it much. It's just something we have to get through.

If you are still having persistent pain by Monday you should call your surgeon and talk to the nurse. If you are having pain right now that isn't controlled by pain medicine you probably should head to the ER.

Walk and sip. Both of those things are huge. And both will help with how you are feeling. Walking helps with gas and muscle soreness. Sipping makes sure you don't get dehydrated and have to go to the hospital for fluids.

Hang in there, if it's just "normal" post op pain you will be turning the corner soon. And then you get to the good part. The part where the weight starts coming off. Congratulations on your surgery. I have a feeling you are going to be just fine.

Thank you! That makes me feel a lot better haha. I know everyone is different but it was crazy how many people were saying they had no pain etc ... thank you for your reply!

Not sure about the "dead spot" ... doesn't sound right.

Pain, cramps, gas etc.... all normal.

I went to the ER my 2nd day home. I woke up clammy and with a pretty sharp pain in my left side. I freaked out. Thought I was dying. Didn't die.

Haha my intentions are to make sure that doesn't happen!

I know exactly what you mean as I too was unprepared for the level of pain I experienced. So many people wrote about having no pain, just a little discomfort. Me, I felt like I was run over by a bus, lol. It was really bad. Going from a sitting to standing position, or vice versa, was agony for me for the first week.

Congrats on your surgery, and hang in, as if it's normal post op pain it will get a bit better every day.
