Surgery tomorrow!!
After 3 weeks of drinking optifast shakes (thank god it's over) I'm finally going for surgery tomorrow!..truth is I'm beyond terrified but it's going to be my first day at a whole new healthy lifestyle no more! Just hoping I don't have much pain cause I can't deal with pain at all!...I'm just looking for some info on some about how the pain was, how long before I can go back to the gym little things like that?
I really didn't have any pain at all. My abs were super sore (like I'd done 1000 crunches) so transitions could be a challenge (e.g, going from a lying position to a sitting position), but if I was just sitting there or lying there, I really didn't have any pain. The nurses made me use my morphine pump while I was at the hospital to make transitions easier so I could get up and walk, but if it were up to me, I wouldn't have done it. The pain pills they sent me home with went unopened.
I too had basically no pain after surgery and was up walking about an hour after I got to my room. I didn't use anything for pain after except Tylenol. Can't help with the gym question as my exercise has always been brisk daily walks with my boxer Lily. My surgery was the best decision ever as I went from 273 to 118 to 120 now. I've been at this weight now for 41/2 years after a lifetime of obesity. It's hard but the surgery works if you make smart choices.
I felt horribly bloated when I woke in recovery. Major discomfort more than pain. I had sharp, piercing pains occasionally during the first week or so, worsened by coughing or sudden movements. I took the pain meds and dealt with it.
Doc will say how long before you can return to the gym, but walking is recommended immediately. Walking absolutely helps.

Good luck tomorrow! You'll do great! I didn't have much pain after the first 2 days except that transitioning was difficult. Remember to start walking right away and sip, sip, sip your fluids. It's hard at first, but make walking and sipping your job after surgery. Both will help with the healing and keeping things moving.

first off - CONGRATS and good luck tomorrow!
Pain is different for everyone. For me day 2 was bad and everything improved each day from then on out.
As far as exercise, walk when you can in the beginning. It really helps.
Actual workout exercise, usually not for the first 3 months and nothing that involves the core for 4 months according to my hospital (but they all have different rules/guidelines).

11+ years ago I was in the same boat. I'm sure tonight you are cleaning out your system. For many people the worst (cleaning the system) may be behind you. My surgery was on a Monday. I was so worried my surgeon had forgot the procedure over the weekend!! I couldn't sleep the night before. I woke up my wife and asked her if I was doing the right thing? She said "look you've prayed about this, looked at it from every angle, did tons of research, NOW GET SOME SLEEP"!!
It will be here before you know it. In the hospital there is a lot of hurry up and wait...You just need to get use to it.
The pain level can be managed with the meds. It is usually 4 days of heavy meds. After that (10 days to two weeks) it is more discomfort...Where you can take a an Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or choose not to take it...Like when you have a sprained wrist or ankle...Brian
First: Good luck. You have made a decision to live a healthy life.
I'll second everybody else. No pain after surgery, didn't have to take pain medicole after I got home. Had to be careful when laughing or coughing, just the first couple of days
Exercise: walking right away. I went back to gym and my trainer after two months. We didn't do core for another month. After my third month appt I was given green light for all exercise and my trainer thoroughly enjoyed putting me through the ringer! :-)
