weakness and lightheaded- HELP
Hi everyone.
I apologize in advance for the following whining -- I am 3 weeks out from a sleeve to RNY revision with esophageal repair for killer GERD with aspiration pneumonia. I have been super weak. Like dizzy, shaky and just ready to lay in the bed the last 2 days. I am getting my fluids in and I know my protein is lacking but I am starting to make a real push to get at least 65 gms protein even if I have to do just protein drinks.I have noticed that it is MUCH harder to swallowing keep food down this time around and I get the slimes and frothy thing pretty frequently. Thankfully I work from home but I still am expected to sit at a desk for 8 hours day. ANY and ALL suggestions and advice welcome
Thanks so much Kathy
First, call your surgeon's office and let them know that you are struggling. They may want you to do a Barium Swallow or something to make sure everything is passing all right.
Only advice is take it slow and make sure you are getting enough food and calories in... 2 Premier protein are 60g of protein but only 320 calories and that might not be enough if you are feeling weak and lightheaded. Not sure what food stage you are on but think easy/soft foods for now --thinned out greek yogurt, cottage cheese, poached egg.
Download a timer app and take slow bites. I used one in the beginning that isn't functional anymore, but I am sure there are others out there.
I would keep a food journal on paper with times and how I am feeling when, to see if there are any patterns.
Good Luck

It sounds like you are too light on calories., . I had same issue at 3 weeks post op...( wth calorie intake of 280 cals) So weak could hardly walk.
Do quick intake count on:calorie ,protein and fluids...... if under/around 400 calories. add one serving of carbs with your protein..if you tolerate milk/yugurt greek it would give both carbs and good protein...
Be very careful, your sugar could be dropping/running on low side of normal.. if so, slow addition of carbs will strengthen, and balancing it can be a tricky thing...You will need to find your sweet spot for energy and tolerance to best keep weight loss going.
FAt is NOT your friend ..it usually was the cause of slime and froth, for me.. Usually was accidental ingestion...(someone else preparing my food) Re check ALL labels.
Warm liquids pass much quicker thru than cold. Standing and straightening torso will help food move down, if passages blocked by position... walking to bathroom and back is often enough to give relief....sips of warm coffee/tea/broth will help moving things down...instead of backwards.
Do you have advantage of Nutritionish consultant..possibly by phone thru surgeons office? Or Surgeons nurse? if condition worsens/persists? Having calorie/protein and fluid intakes will be important info for you to have handy for best advise.
