Lapband removed now looking at RNY
on 12/1/17 8:20 pm
So after 6 years I had emergency surgery to remove my band as my port was infected. Though I hated the band it did stop me from gaining weight and I did "mourn" the loss of it especially the cost & thought would be for "life"
Anyway I'm at this place now and considering next steps
I'm 189 pounds and 5'5 in height
I was banded at 174 pounds
Current BMI is 32
the band was good for me as I could eat (smaller portions) but I could eat at least
If I was to get RNY is that the same?
People who have had band to RNY conversion also please share your experiences
With a BMI of 32, it seems unlikely that insurance would cover RNY. I'd be surprised if a surgeon would allow for self pay at that low of a BMI either.

It's certainly worth a try - scheduling an appointment with him to talk about your options and concerns would be worthwhile.

I already find myself eating larger portions
Really need just a small restriction like with the band I had 0.8ml in a 10ml band
I could eat everything but smaller portions
part of me does mourn the band still
but if it can bearly last 5 year's in most cases not worth it
With RNY you are restricted on how much you can eat, and what you eat is not well absorbed for the first few years. So weight falls off effortlessly.
Later the body absorbs food again and you can also eat more. Then it becomes diet and exercise to maintain.
At your current BMI, I think a diet and exercise program might be what you need. Hopefully you can find a good trainer and diet advisor.

All the best for your upcoming surgery! Will be nice to hear how you get along
my concern is that time won't be a friend to me either
the band was good for the first couple of year's but it's horrible how so many people have to have it removed for complications and not to mention the cost (the infills etc)!
