I am 5 1/2 weeks post op and i am having serious constipation issues which i think in turn is causing the vomiting. I cant keep any food down. My surgeon said to do miralax and suppositories and that helped very little. What can I do to take care of whats left?

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. How many ounces of fluids are you getting in every day?

I am not keeping anything down. He has already gone in and did a balloon dilation for a stricture and opened it up a little and it seemed good for a few days and then it went right back to how it was before.

Can you keep down water or fluids, or does EVERYTHING come back up? If you're unable to keep fluids down, you need to be examined for a stricture, and ASAP. Dehydration for us is no joke.

Constipation is super common the first several months. I had to use milk of magnesia a few times. If you look around, you will find a million posts on constipation.

It is doubtful that your vomiting is connected to your constipation. It sounds like you still have a stricture. Most people seem to need 2 or 3 dilations to get a stricture open sufficiently. I'd have another scope done to see if you need another treatment.

Drinking is crucial. Not getting enough fluid in will contribute to constipation, and all sorts of other problems.

Forgot to answer your question namely around experiencing nausea with bowel movements. That has happened to me many times - even when I 'm not constipated. So I've got no easy answer.

Maybe it's time to try a stimulant laxative just to get everything out of there. Normally we stay away from the stimulant laxatives but sometimes you just have to do what's going to keep you out of the hospital. At least that is always my own personal hope and goal, lol.

I do know of one thing you want to avoid like the plague and that is 'impacted bowel', IF you haven't gotten this at least a bit of help from all of these suggestions and you're laxative or combination of laxatives hasn't worked yet, I personally would begin doing anything and everything I've learned about relieving constipation. You DO NOT WANT to deal with impacted bowel. Seriously. I honestly believe that procedures relating to getting things moving are damn near barbaric.

You can do this. Try to sip and walk as much as possible. So happy you are on the road to your best life ever.

I do not know how well you are at drinking right now but I had the same problem and was hospitalized with it early on. They gave me magnesium citrate it comes in a bottle and is a drink really helped me out. Does not taste too bad.
