passed out last night

My husband and son have a stomach bug. I forgot to eat/drink all day yesterday. I realized at about 6pm. I sat down and ate 2oz of cheese and 1oz of turkey then drank 12oz of electrolyte water. I went to bed at 9:30 and woke up at 11 to my son throwing up. I was helping him get out of his pajamas and the next thing I knew he was asking me what I was doing. I opened my eyes to find myself on the tile floor. my cheek is bruised. I was in a dizzy, hot sweat. I couldn't move for a few minutes. Then I got up and cleaned him up, stripped the bed and was fine again. I have only passed out one other time in my life and it was from pain, years ago. It's such a weird feeling. I am fine this morning. I slept on the floor in my son's room all night. Could I really have passed out from not eating/drinking for less than a day?

Hi minaque2....sure sounds like you can!...you really need to see your doctor and get checked out to make sure that's what caused it...so scary! Remember to take care of yourself too! Take care

I go into autopilot when my family is sick and completely forget about me.

It's like the airplane oxygen mask:

"In case of emergency, air masks will drop the ceiling. If you are traveling with a child, please put on your own mask before helping others."

This metaphor is shockingly apt in this particular case: If you faint from lack of self-care ("oxygen"), you can't provide any care to those you love.

Consider that your son was without you while you passed out -- and that could have been far worse if you'd struck your head wrong, etc.

Taking care of yourself is indeed a form of loving your family.

Somewhere there has to be a balance of loving sacrifice for those we love, and providing loving care for our own selves.

Recovery from obesity requires a fierce self-love and uncompromising and consistent accountability.

No surgery can give those to anyone.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

So true Donna. We need to really put ourselves first before anyone else.

You might have been dehydrated, or maybe you also have the bug but it's affecting you differently. I'd see my doctor if I were you.

Hope you and your family feel better soon.

Could be orthostatic hypotension. You bend down to do something and when get up the lights go off.

It's exacerbated by dehydration.

Absolutely you can. You're lucky you were safe at home and not out shopping or some such. It's vital to get your fluids in, no matter how busy you are. Dehydration is no fun.

Picture all of the blood and fluid that is in constant motion inside your body turning to sludge.

Now drink your water.

Yep- those with hypoglycemia can pass out from somethign as simple as not getting enough carbs at the right times and doing something as simple as taking a walk.
