Going to Hibachi -- What should I order?

I start soft foods today and it happens to be my best friend's birthday. She has chosen to have a birthday dinner at a local hibachi restaurant. Any suggestions on what I should order?

i was thinking possibly hibachi shrimp or chicken and shrimp combo. They don't seem to have hibachi salmon, but they do have orange roughy. I don't want to try steak yet -- too early.

i won't eat any of the rice. I'll bring that home for my husband. But when you started soft foods, what proteins were the easiest for you to eat?

Thanks!

Fish is by far the easiest in my opinion. Chicken, shrimp took a long time. Think about foods you can mash up in your mouth without relying on your teeth. Most fish falls in that category. Chicken and shrimp not so much

Have you not "gotten stuck" yet? Restaurants are not fun places for that to happen.

Hate to be a downer but there is no way I could have eaten any of that in the soft food stage--dense proteins like chicken, shrimp, and steak are not soft. At this point you should be on cottage cheese, black beans, ricotta pancakes, egg salad, etc... Honestly, I wouldn't risk moving too fast through the stages to eat with them. It's just a meal--my advice is to go for the company, but eat at home first.

I guess it depends on what you are able to eat now.

I wouldn't anything out if you have not eaten anything like this at home.

There are times now even at four years out I can eat something with no problem. But I still have to watch.

Not speaking from my own experience, just secondary experience!

my husband was able to eat softer fish like tilapia in soft food stage after chewing well. You could also see if they serve egg drop soup, perhaps. But I wouldn't try anything much else.

I agree that you should go for the company, but hold off on the food. Have a cup of tea, enjoy your friends, but don't push things food-wise. I'm not sure what i would be able to order there and I'm 5 months out - maybe a couple of ounces of filet mignon. Though fish seems like a soft option, not everyone (myself included) can eat it without it sticking, very painfully. IMO you would be better served by sticking to yogurt, cottage cheese, refried beans, possibly some soft deli meats...at your stage, I don't think anyone would really be ready for a meal at Hibachi. I say this not to deprive you of fun, but to express concern that it would make you ill. Good luck.

I have gone to dinner after surgery and I ate before I went. So I wouldn't have any incidents.

Getting sick while out somewhere sucks.

My rule was to never try anything new outside the house. So, unless they have something on the menu you've already eaten I'd just sip on a sugar-free drink and make conversation! Otherwise, you may find yourself sick at your friend's party and no one loves that.
