Anyone else have trouble eating fish?

I have kept on trying, but this far I haven't been able to comfortably eat tilapia, salmon, or tuna. It all just gets stuck, painfully. I'm going to stop trying for a while. Come to think of it, I should have laid off trying altogether before now. Has anyone else experienced this? Seafood in general has been a lifelong favorite, but not now, it hurts too much. I usually have it with lemon. It all seems quite soft, but still gets stuck. I'm a bit over 5 months out.

I was never crazy about fish to begin with...but....post surgery I can't stand it. I tried for awhile but if the smell and taste of the fish make me sick. Also as you say if I managed to get any down it would get stuck...no matter what I did. Not offering any solutions just commiseration. Nancy

You're more than welcome! Best of luck with your freelance stuff.... I've been there...can be really tough (,an editor once told me that they hated my ads) but overall I think it's a great way to work...certainly builds confidence...after all I did keep working for years after that editor's snarky comment! Thank you! I have been doing my own thing for a long while in various ways. I used to write ad copy, advertorials, press releases, etc. for various businesses, but that was a very long time ago. I don't have any of those old clippings, long ago stopped keeping up those relationships, moved far away from NY, and the world went digital in the meantime. I'm trying to start it up again, and hope I will be able to!

It's never gotten stuck- but fish is top of my 'dense' protein lists. If I ever question restriction, I eat fish. I call mercy quickly with fish.

Initially I couldn't manage farm-raised salmon at all, only wild caught. Now I can handle either. I also enjoy tilapia, whiting, shrimp, snapper, etc.

i prepare fish a variety of ways, breaded/baked, sautéed, steamed etc. tartar sauce/ketchup is always on hand for me to pair with fish.

Hi Peach! This is my third attempt to respond to you - OH has eaten several of my posts today!

I hope that in the future I too will be able to enjoy shrimp and salmon once again! It's weird to have foods which were such favorites seem to be so stubbornly inedible, but I will try again next month. Seafood is so low cal and so high in protein. I look forward to being able to eat it again!

Fish is one of the foods that can cause problems, It seems to be a truly individual thing. I used to eat it weekly, but even 23 years post op I still have trouble with it.

Generally when something gets stuck for me, it is too dry... give it some time an try again... and try to moisten your bites..maybe change recipe? and.. make sure it is warm when you eat it.

I can now have a few peices of shrimp in a salad, or wih a dab( less than a half teaspoon total) of tartar sauce.. about 3 shrimp is my limit... Tuna I can now eat in a tuna salad,( if i use a low fat mayo, and very little of that) or in a casserole/mixed dish..

That's interesting, I didn't know that it was one of those potentially problematic foods. But it sure has been that way for me! I will give it another try in a few weeks. Thanks for your tips!

I've given up on fish entirely--gets stuck every time... Fool me once, fool me twice... (ok fine, I think I've tried it like a dozen times). Never again.
