morning everyone!

i had such a fun relaxing day yesterday. We went to a friend's open house for breakfast. Then we hosted some of my family for a turkey dinner. It was really low key, we hung out, played outburst, and chatted.

Today we're going out for lunch with my husband's grandmother. This weekend is all about family I guess!

qotd: this might not apply to everyone, but now that the cooler weather is here, what's your plan for staying on track in winter? Working out can be more challenging, there is more comfort food floating around. And more occasions to indulge etc.

I can see this season is going to be a lot more challenging that last winter as a new post op. I will continue to try and find activities that become the focus of a get together rather than just the meal.

I find that helps a lot. I'm going to come up with a list of activities I'd like to do over the winter, to check off. I also spend a bit of each morning being mindful of what my goals are, to keep them front of mind.

Menu:

It's all up in the air. I'm making turkey stock this morning, going to a restaurant for lunch/brunch. And probably turkey leftovers for dinner

have a good one!

Good morning! We had a great time at a sand sculpting competition yesterday which a friend competed in but I'm tired. A picture of one of the sculptures is below.

QOTD: Because we are in Florida this year it should be easier for us to be active. Daily aerobics, walks, exercise classes etc. are just down the street. At my age we go out to eat a lot, so having to make good choices is a constant, which I think has helped me so far in maintenance in a way (I had to figure out how to manage that early on).

1 year, 8 months post-op, maintenance:

B: eggbeaters, cottage cheese, and Canadian bacon

L: tuna salad, pickles and cottage cheese

D: Roast Turkey and veggies (we are making our own so we have leftovers- no stuffing or gravy)

S: yogurt

What an amazing sand sculpture! How do the artists achieve such fine retention of shape? I'm going to have to look up the rules for what tools, products, etc. are allowed in the competition. I'm amazed by how perfectly the sand holds it's beautiful shape!

They start by putting all the sand in a mold, adding a lot of water and packing it all down - some consistencies of sand are better at others at holding together when wet (the stuff that is like cake flour is best). Then, as needed, they spray water on the sculpture to keep it wet (for this competition, they carve for 4 days). They also sometimes spray an Elmer's glue/water concoction on the final sculpture. They have a lot of unique tools, including ones of their own making. Two key tools our friend uses (in addition to metal tools) are a straw and a fingerprint dusting brush!

Good Morning Erin and Menu Family!

I still have a terrible back ache. Not sure what I did to my back, but I can barely stand or walk without being bent over like a little old lady! Probably not going to take my dog for a walk today.

QOTD: When I am cold and want some warm food to warm me up I drink a cup of coffee (if it's early enough) or if it's later I drink beef broth. It helps warm me up and fill me up and I can drink 2 cups for only 30 calories. I took my dog for walks all last winter and plan to continue taking her for walks this winter, too, unless it's blizzarding or really nasty out.

Accountability: Yesterday: Protein - 76, Calories - 1,130, Carbs - 113.

B: prosciutto & mozzarella sticks, light & fit Greek yogurt

L: homemade chili

D: crustless chicken pot pie

S: prosciutto & mozzarella sticks, light & fit Greek yogurt, 2 Atkin's peanut butter cups

Have a GREAT day everyone!

~ Karen
