Suggestions for trying protein powders without losing an arm and a keg to cost-

Costco- always takes returns of open items. Receipt of no receipt. BJs will but you will usually get the side eye. :)... Not sure about Sam's Club

Vitamin Shope and GNC will both accept returns with receipt within 30 days. VS you get store credit, GNC you get your money back.

Try using Silk Cashew Milk from the refrigerated case. It has a thicker viscosity than almond milk or coconut. Shake. Let sit for a few minutes and shake again. Gives it a few minutes to dissolve.

The only brand I think has flavors that taste good in water is Syntrax. I like the fuzzy navel over diluted in water with extra sweetener, tastes like orangeade. They also have lemonade and ice tea which I haven't tried. They do sell single serving size so you can sample. I usually buy the big one off Netrition.

Fairlife is lactose free lower carb, higher protein. If you can get it where you are, try it.

Some parts of country have lower carb milk called Carbmaster, but I don't know if that's lactose free.

Sugar Free Jello with protein has been really helpful for me since surgery. You make the jello like you normally would (1c boiling + jello mix), but you let it cool down to room temperature before mixing with your cold water (1c cold water + 1 scoop of unflavoured protein powder), then refrigerate it like normal. The jello looks kind of weird, but is otherwise normal (taste, texture, etc).

I also use the unflavoured protein powder, some chocolate milk, water and 3 frozen strawberries to make my shake. I put them all in a blender. The chocolate and strawberries is really all I can taste.

A lot of places have sample packs of their protein powders, you could shop around and maybe see if you can find anything that doesn't make you sick.

also wanted to add- if you have a GNC store, you can return anything you don't like. And I have- it was a gross one. no questions asked.

they also will have samples from time to time

I'll have to give that Jello a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

I stirred unflavored protein powder into lots of things to meet my protein goals in the early stages. Beef or chicken broth, yogurt, cottage cheese. You can mix it into anything hot if you let it cool down to under 130F so it doesn't clump up.

Thanks, that's good to know about the under 130 so it won't curdle. I wasted a couple of scoops of unflavored Protien on this. Didn't occur to me that one it's a milk product that is subjected to curdling when heat is added.

I will definitely give the unflavored protien another chance.

Thanks!

I mix mocha flavored protein powder into my hot coffee every morning. The trick is to mix it up with room temp tap water until it is the consistency of brownie batter or a little thinner, and then add the coffee. Stir stir stir and I never get clumps.

Bariatric Choice does a "clear" protein that you add to a bottle of water. And it's really clear, it's fluid and mixes in immediately, not the "kinda milky weird not really mixed" protein that is some products (looking at you, Syntrax Nectars). 15 grams of protein, and it comes in a variety of flavors. I'm not too far out, only about 4 months, but when I was first out of the hospital I would add one of the clear protein packets to a bottle of water and set that bottle by my bed. Then whenever I would wake up in the middle of the night I'd drink a little bit of it. By the time I got up for the day I'd be 15 grams and 17 ounces ahead of my day already. It worked really well!

Hi,

The only two forms of protein I could tolerate on a daily basis come from ISOPURE. 0 carbs, zero sugar, lactose free protein. I use the unflavored and add it to everything and make protein pudding with fairlife ff milk to eat in the evenings. I drink a banana isopure shake every day for breakfast. I use only water and ice and it is not like shake at all. Tastes more like banana water because it is not thick like a protein shake.

I also eat egg beaters but I use 6 TB which is two servings according to the carton and add ff cheese, and some turkey or ham. About 25 -29 grams of protein per serving

Usually I get in about 80-100 grams of protein a day.

I am not a huge protein shake fan but it is important at the part of the game you are in. I notice in the menu thread that some of the ppl use it in coffee tea and as hot chocolate. I hate protein powder.

Yogurt

Cottage Cheese

Chicken Shrimp Tuna Beef Eggs are great sources of protein I agree on going to eggface she has great recipes. Search eggbites and ricotta bake.

I notice that ppl order click protein on amazon I think it has mocha/coffee flavor.

unjury online has chicken broth flavored as well as a lot of other ones I found these tolerable.

Premier protein I think on amazon also sold at Walmart and costco

Good Luck
