Welcome! How exciting that your surgery day is almost here. Here in the states we will of course be celebrating Thanksgiving that day but what a day to be thankful for. I stayed one night in the hospital and once I got home I didn't require the prescribed pain medicine and stuck to Tylenol. For me, the worst pain was from the gas and it didn't dissipate for a few days-walking as much as I could did help that. I did have three weeks off from work but logged in the last 1 1/2 weeks to sort through emails and such. I remember being up and around able to cook and what not pretty quickly but if I remember right I did have a lifting restriction for a few weeks. I wish you the best of luck.

I was in the hospital 2 overnights. IT was not that bad. Although laughing and coughing hurt. I was up and walking like a mad woman in the hospital. I had ants in my pants from boredom. I remember sleeping alot in the hospital. But I did not need any help when I got home. DH was back to work and it was really no big deal. ALthough I am the surgery queen for weightloss as I had the crap band and VSG, wishing you luck.

Thanks for the insights, I am THAT person who will joke with anyone about anything so I am going to have to remember to can it for a while, however, probably the first tug on my tummy will remind me if I forget!!

I was in the hospital one night, two mornings total. Surgery went well, my liver was small due to the diet. Just had a reaction to something they gave me in the OR. First time I was ever operated on so a tiny complication like hives or whatever was nothing. I did good. Sleeping was a pain in the hospital, too many things attached. Did pretty good the first two weeks, I had Triscuits as this place knows but that's it. It's just getting used to not having so much food. Doing better, I can have some food for Thanksgiving and I just take it day by day.

Hey swflyers when was your surgery? It sounds pretty recent. What and how are you eating for your Thanksgiving?

I was in hospital 3 days. My husband took a weeks vacation to be there for me and to get kids to school. A week after surgery I was back driving kids to school. I had issues with trapped gas and did not pass gas 3 days and took 4 days to have BM. The gas took a while to all come out. walking and heating pad was helpful. I slept in bed propped up on pillows to be comfortable. Started walking the first night in hospital. I have had issues with my largest incision. I am a diabetic and diabetics take longer to heal, and that can give infection a chance to set it. My largest incision always hurt. 3 weeks out it was healing well at least on outside. It opened and starting draining. I have been dealing with it since. I had drain put in and taken out. Now I have two open wounds that get packed everyday. I have a nurse who comes everyday. Hopefully it heals soon. 3 rounds of antibiotics. Not all diabetics have this issue. I was surprised because sugars are great. A1C was 5.3. I do think it is nice to have someone around to assist you. Was cooking for family with help a few days after I got home.

Hi Dorothy - I have escaped diabetes, one of the reasons for the surgery. I am surrounded by sugar babies! Nice to hear you were out and about that fast! I am a very quick healer usually so fingers crossed.

Congrats on having a surgery day! :) November 23rd is not only thanksgiving here, but it also marks the 19th year of marriage for me and the hubby.

I was in the hospital for 3 nights 4 days. Only because I had issues getting liquid into me. For me, I had quit a bit of pain the first 3 days, but after that it was mostly just a little uncomfortable. I walked like a mad woman when I was at the hospital. And I had purple hair, so one of the nurses just had to take a picture of it for her daughter.

I was on liquids for 3 weeks after that, and then pureed for 2 weeks, then soft for 3 weeks. And finally I was able to do normal food. Although my normal is chicken, mozzarella sticks, and Ricotta bake. Sadly eggs make my tummy go nope. But decaf coffee and me are best buddies now :). I was lucky, I was passing gas day 1, up to and including bm's.

I didn't have too much pain when I went home after though. I used the pills to help sleep better. I was lucky I guess because from the first night home I could sleep on my back and my side. And within 1 week I was able to sleep on my stomach with no pain at all. I don't recommend though until you can feel no pain and your comfortable with sleeping. But most of all I wish you the best of luck and a soon welcome to the losers bench.
