Hi everyone, and Happy Friday!
Teena, Owen is a very, very cute boy. Plus I love his name! Happy Birthday to him!
I don't remember my 13th birthday - my parents were always very sweet about our birthdays, with parties when we were younger and at least cake, presents, and whatever we wanted for dinner when we were older. Once I asked for a lavender birthday cake (the color, not the herb). This was before the fancy food colors so widely available now, all we had were those little four-packs of red, blue, green and yellow liquid dyes. Both of my parents tried their best to coax lavender out of red and blue, but the best they could get was grey frosting with a slightly lavender tint! They were very apologetic! But I didn't care, in fact, I thought it was adorable that they had tried so hard! And the frosting was pretty, in a Goth kind of moody way!
This afternoon I'm going to have a mammogram - oh joy. And this evening I'm scheduled to receive the shingles vaccine, but I am thinking of delaying it until I'm further past the flu shot I received. I didn't realize it before I got that shot, but apparently it's often contraindicated for people who have had Guillain-Barre' Syndrome. I don't know for sure - because I do not remember anyone using that term, and those records are long lost - but I think I probably had that when I was 6. I don't remember how it began, but I do remember being completely paralyzed from my waist down. They didn't hospitalize me, and in those days doctors came to your house if you weren't well enough to make the trip to them. I do remember the doctor telling my parents that this sometimes occurred after someone had had a virus, and I had recently recovered from a bad cold. I remember the doctor saying that usually people recovered from the paralysis. Now a kid with that would be instantly hospitalized! My poor parents must have been terribly worried. Anyway, I was unable to walk or move my legs at all for a few weeks (I think - honestly I don't remember for sure how long it took). I acutely remember being so embarrassed that my parents had to lift me onto a bedpan - I found that terribly humiliating! But fortunately the paralysis ended, and I was able to move again. I had to crawl around like a baby for a while until I was strong enough again to walk. Anyway, I was thinking of that last night and trying to figure out if the Zoster vaccine is contraindicated for people who have had that. The nurse at the doctor's office told me to ask the pharmacist, who told me to ask the doctor's office. Thanks, medical professionals! I have concluded that since I already had a flu shot which I didn't realize actually was contraindicated, that I should probably wait until a few more weeks have passed before I have the shingles vaccine, since sometimes Guillaine-Barre' patients can react to flu shots 6 weeks after they receive it. I feel completely fine though and don't anticipate any trouble at all. I just want to take care not to be stupid as I receive all this prophylactic pharmacology.

Yes I remember that because DS just barely squeaked it in before he turned 18. It was too bad that you didn't get it finished (DS was almost in the same boat). It got a little hairy on timing!

Sorry, super late today! I think I pushed it a bit too much yesterday and I am exhausted.
QOTD: how could I forget 13. Braces, last year as the big fish on the pond (grade 8), last year I played boys hockey (I grew up in a small town so this was the only way to play hockey when I started at 3). Looking back at my photos I remember thinking I was heavy then.. I only wish I stayed that size.
Accountability: I followed what I said yesterday except I had some almonds instead of a babybel.
Officially 4 weeks out today
B: scrambled eggs with cheese
L: 3 slices of deli meat and babybel
D: 4oz chicken, red pepper, feta, adobo seasoning
S: tall decaf skinny vanilla latte, 5 whisps
I have been craving ice cream so I am making some out of 2cups of milk and a scoop of protein powder. I figured I could get 2-4 servings out of it and it will hopefully get over that craving.
