Lower back and hip pain at 5 months post op
I had RNY in May of this year, 2017. I have lost a total of 120 pounds since my highest weight and 74 pounds since surgery. The past couple of weeks, I have had some severe lower back pain. When I first experienced this pain in my lower back, I just thought I had pulled it out somehow, gave it some rest and a few days and it seemed to subside. This last weekend, I again experienced this excrutiating pain, much worse than the original onset of pain. I have tried resting it, tried ice and heat, alternating them, taken tylenol and a few times taken hydrocodone they gave me after surgery, just so I could get some sleep, but even that isnt helping anymore. I am so uncomfortable at night and do not sleep well. The past couple days, it seems to be radiating into my hips. I had read something recently that sometimes, losing weight at a rapid rate can be the reason for lower back pain due to your body adjusting itself or due to your "apron" hanging. Could that be the reason for my pain? I do have an appointment with the dr's office this Thursday and will discuss it with them. Just wanted to get some opinions of others that may have experienced this issue, if there are any out there? This pain is really uncomfortable and unbearable at times to the point of tears. Any one else experience this? Thanks in advance for input you can give me.
It is an option. I guess I'm just afraid of going to a chiropractor. Maybe this sounds crazy, but everyone I know that has been to one, just seems to have to keep going and it never seems to end. It could be something I resort to, but I just hate to start something that will never have an end to it.
I get that. i saw one for short term, and had I not cancelled further appointments, I probably would still be roped in. But I felt like the issue resolved and didn't need ongoing follow up.i wouldn't hesitate going back if it developed again though.
See your doc to rule out medical issues- if that pans out nadda, it's worth trying.

I recently had this same issue! I was convinced I had a herniated disk or some sort of back spasm. I went to my doctor and she gave me a referral to a physical therapist and some muscle relaxers. Through PT, I learned that I had a hip alignment issue. I went 2x a week and do my exercises myself 3x a week. It seems to be resolved but I'm being vigilant because that pain and discomfort whether sitting or standing or laying is not something I want to experience again! See if you can find a good PT to help you. Like you, I was very nervous to go to a chiropractor although some people swear by them. Good luck!

Get PT, I suffer the same, I should have gone right after my loss. We walk different whem we are holding all that weight, you need to kearn to walk without all that weight. For me now sleeping and sitting still suck! All the skin around my hips weigh less than my bones so I si k in the bed weird. And forget running for me! Alk that loose stuff sways and pulls at my joints.
