What's on your Tuesday menu RNYers?
Good Morning Teena and Menu Family!
QOTD: I drink my coffee from home, Folger's. I usually drink it with Almond milk in it, but I think I'll try using my vanilla protein shake mix as a creamer because I need to use up my protein powder.
Accountability: Yesterday: Protein - 84, Calories - 1,105, Carbs - 77. I didn't walk my dog yesterday. The wind was ferocious and I just didn't want to get out in it. (Shame on me!)
B: prosciutto & mozzarella sticks, light & fit Greek yogurt
L: hamburger patty with melted cheese, light & fit Greek yogurt
D: Birdseye Voila chicken alfredo
S: prosciutto & mozzarella sticks, light & fit Greek yogurt, banana, Atkin's peanut butter cups
E: Walking Blossom around the subdivision
Have a FANTASTIC day everyone!
~ Karen
Good morning! My menu is more or less the same as yesterday. Cottage cheese, yogurt, berries, protein shake, tuna, etc. Rinse and repeat. Wouldn't change a thing.
I did eat a half an apple on my hour-long walk and fed the rest to the coyotes that live in the wooded trail alongside the path. They'll find that little morsel I'm sure. I've stayed away from apples and most fruits (except berries with my yogurt) but I felt a bit shaky this morning, like the sugar was low. I figured 3 bites of an apple wouldn't kill me, would up the energy (particularly for the hour-long walk) while adding in a bit of much needed fibre along with the vites.
QOTD: I have been a coffee fanatic for years, honing my barista skills at work over the years. We collectively bought a good industrial BUNN machine for work and a grinder, and each of us in this group bring in various roasts we find in our travels to share with one another. Of course my switch to decaf was a bit devastating for a while but I've gotten used to it. I was so happy to hear the doctor and nutritionist (and surgeon) say that one cup of high test a day (max) would be just fine after about the 6 month mark. Not for the caffeine - for the wonderful flavours that my fellow brewers discover.
I prefer McD coffee over Tim Horton's, but their dark roast has brought me back - to a point. Not to sound like a complete tool here.....but what really gets me is the sheer number of times that they can screw up a medium BLACK COFFEE (decaf or high octane). I get double-doubles or 4x4's more often than you'd think. I just can't drink it other than black. My wife orders a steeped tea with 2 sweeteners and 2 milk, and they messed up the order so many times that we verify it too now before we leave. Just a minor pet peeve of mine. I know it's crazy in there a lot, and I've worked service industry, but this isn't metro Toronto. It's small-town Ontario and not really busy. It's lack of attention which drives me nuts. It's an opportunity for me to show grace, to be patient and I don't give them a hard time about it if it's wrong. They're pretty good about making it right, and getting all up in their face doesn't really solve anything.
When it's right though, I really enjoy it. Starbucks is a favourite too, though my wife finds it too strong. I prefer it that way (spoon-melting).
My tastes changed so much afters surgery, and now I like my coffee akin to what others would refer to it as 'sludge'! And you should see me at Starbucks when I order my quad latte DECAF... I can't have decaf for more than just my surgery, because that stuff makes me sick, so I'm like a freak. I verify, then verify again, then read the label twice before I drive away... if I'm in the place, I stalk the barista and watch them push the decaf button... I can't tell you how many times I've driven away with my coffee only to find myself shaking like a leaf about an hour later... it literally ruins my day. So I'm with you on being frustrated with coffee places that can't get it right!

I hear ya. I've never reacted to caffeine even prior to surgery though - I just liked the taste of coffee so decaf made no difference to me, except for the lack of flavours for the low octane club. I've solved that by adding in flavour shots at my desk. Plus, with all of these bottles it looks like I have a bar in my office. Of course I say nothing and let people wonder.
The Timmy's drive-thru experience hit its' peak this summer. We pulled up and ordered, pulled ahead and the guy running the show used an entire pot of steeped tea trying to wrap his brain around my wife's (not complcated) order. My decaf black took three tries but he got it right, and my coffee was almost half gone as we sat there in the drive thru waiting for hers. It was almost comical. She wound up just taking a decaf double-double instead, because he had to brew another tea pot. He apologized and handed us a coupon for a free coffee. It was OK, he was obviously having a rough day. We sat in line for close to 15 minutes, the last 3 of which had cars coming in behind us. As bone-headed as he was at that moment, I kinda felt bad for the pileup. He appreciated us not freaking out though. I've witnessed that from customers and it just looks ridiculous losing your mind over a beverage that you could make for 1/10 the cost to your liking, at home.
I had an argument with a barista once at Coffee Bean because I watched her make my latte and not use the sugar free powder. I told her to remake it and she argued with me. when i finally told her that she'll be responsible if I drink it and get sick (told her I was diabetic) she grudgingly remade the drink. I was standing right there and know what tub you pulled the powder from. Don't mess with me and my coffee!
Apples! I forgot I still have some from the orchard. I may have to do a substitution for the halo top.

Hi Teena & RNYers, Happy Tuesday indeed! Yay on the too big of shirt, and perfect on getting a new "nightgown" out of it, LOL
Accountability: yesterday was spot on. I actually ate less than I planned. I have no problem during the week keeping to my plan, my issue is the weekends. Its just too many outings and too close to the kitchen to go in and out for one more bite of this or a nibble on that. I really need to work on my weekends and sticking to a plan.
QOTD: I actually don't like Tim Hortons. I only buy Kcups. I have a Keurig at home and one in our office kitchenette so I buy in bulk. I either buy Presidents Choice Decaffeinated Vanilla Hazelnut kcups or Van Houtte decaf kcups at Costco. Once in a blue moon treat I will get a Starbucks Caramel Macchiato made with lactose free milk, yummy but so expensive its just not feasible for getting it daily. And I love love love coffee and drink decaf from 6am to 10pm, I go through a lot of Kcups.
